As Adesuwa Ifedi, SVP Africa Programs at Heifer International, highlighted in her recent CNBC interview, the risk in the sector is a significant barrier to financial penetration. If the government doesn't incentivize innovative thinking, this vital sector will continue to be overlooked. The term 'courageous financing' resonates because it's the kind of bold, patient investment that can transform Africa's agriculture. This sector is not only critical to Africa's food security and economic stability, but also has the potential to contribute significantly to global food security. NEWS AFRICA Access to Financing Crucial for the Future of Agriculture in West Africa West Africa's agricultural sector, crucial for millions, faces hurdles limiting its potential, particularly with small-scale farms prevailing. Transitioning from subsistence to industrial agriculture is vital, with success stories like Côte d'Ivoire's cashew processing illustrating the possibilities. Investments in infrastructure, innovation, and skills are imperative, while private sector engagement, exemplified by initiatives like the "Fork to Farm" approach, holds promise for transforming the sector and creating dignified employment opportunities. Collaboration between private and public sectors is essential for sustainable progress. With concerted efforts, West Africa's agricultural sector can emerge as a driving force for prosperity and development in the region and beyond.

Recent years have witnessed an uptick in global investment targeting Africa’s #agrifood sector, recognizing its potential as a hub of opportunity. Many development organizations and #impactinvestors are actively building funds to catalyze investments and deliver climate- and nature-positive outcomes in the sector. However, the project pipeline is constrained, and the available data and capacity for #climaterisk and #impactassessment are limited. In response to these evolving needs, the CLIC Agrifood Investment Connector and CGIAR Hub for Sustainable Finance (ImpactSF) formed a strategic alliance in the context of the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) earlier this year. The teams assessed the climate and nature-related risks and impacts of eight #agribusinesses operating in Sub-Saharan Africa, in preparation for a showcase at a dedicated dealroom session with AGRA at the AFS Forum in Tanzania.
