Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI), National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia’s Post

Aligning with Our Purpose: ABI's “Raison d'Être” Session Ignites Innovation The Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI) organized a “Raison d'Être” Session twice with our scientist to revisit and refine the department's raison d'être (reason for being in existence/ purpose in life) — to discuss our core purpose and objectives as a national research institute. This strategic session aimed to ensure ABI's mission and vision are sharply focused on transforming Malaysia's agriculture sector through cutting-edge biotechnology research, development, commercialization, and innovation. During the session, ABI staff explored ways to enhance the institute's role as a national referral center for agro-biotechnology, generate specialized human capital for sustainable industry growth, and strengthen global and local networks in agricultural biotechnology. By aligning departmental goals with the institute's overarching vision, ABI aspires to be a research institute capable of propelling Malaysia to the forefront of international biotechnology advancements. The session also featured motivational videos and books shared by ABI Director Dr. Seetha Jaganathan King, PhD, further inspiring staff to pursue excellence. ABI and NIBM play a significant role in National Biotechnology Policy 2.0 (DBN 2.0). At the end of the session, we took the opportunity to celebrate surprise birthday for Ms. Marlia and Mrs. Nor Fazila Sulaiman, fostering a culture of camaraderie and support. #wearenibm #raisondeentre #abiscientist #dbn2.0 #biotechnology
