Clariant announced the successful implementation of its EnviCat N2O-S catalyst at Hengli Petrochemical’s nitric acid facility in Dalian, China. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Clariant’s global “Climate Protection Action” initiative. The project aims to provide N2O reduction catalysts at no cost to nitric acid producers that have yet to adopt emission-reducing technologies. Hengli Petrochemical, one of the selected participants, operates a nitric acid plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons. Following the successful installation of the catalyst in June 2024, the plant is expected to reduce N2O emissions by the equivalent of 690,000 tons of CO2 annually. Xaver Karsunke, Global Vice President of Clariant’s Specialty Catalysts division, stated, “We are proud to support Hengli Petrochemical in achieving cleaner chemical production. Our catalyst helps industry leaders like Hengli significantly reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. Such partnerships are crucial to accelerating China’s energy transition and achieving ambitious carbon reduction goals.”

New issue online at: www.nitrogenandsyngas.com: New merchant ammonia projects - Although global ammonia supply is set to increase this year, there is a shortage of new merchant capacity after 2024 which may lead to rising prices in the medium term. China’s urea exports - Although it has been a major exporter of urea, increasing Chinese government restrictions have restricted the seasonal window for exports. A catalyst for the most demanding HTS applications - Tim O'Connell and Emily Viney of Johnson Matthey introduce KATALCO™ 71-7F, the latest innovation in Johnson Matthey’s KATALCO 71 series catalysts for high-temperature shift (HTS) reactions, featuring a robust innovative ‘F’ shape, providing lower lifetime pressure drop. A new low methanol shift catalyst - Anton Kariagin and Stefan Gebert of Clariant discuss the benefits and commercial performance of the new low temperature shift (LTS) catalyst – ShiftMax 217 Plus. A case study demonstrates the benefits of this catalyst, providing ultra-low methanol formation resulting in increased ammonia production and/or energy savings. The future of hydrogen - Low emissions hydrogen is expected to play an increasing role in the syngas-based chemicals industry, but cost and technical challenges remain. Ammonia in a future hydrogen economy - Large-scale ammonia cracking technology and catalysts will enable the full potential of ammonia to be realised as industries transition towards low carbon energy. In this feature we report on the current status of ammonia cracking processes and catalysts, with: hte GmbH - Heraeus - ENERCAT - ALSYS GROUP - Lynas Rare Earths Ltd - KBR, Inc. - Clariant - JGC Group - Johnson Matthey - Technip Energies - thyssenkrupp Uhde - CASALE Ammonia combustion for large furnaces - Air Liquide is constructing an industrial scale pilot plant in Antwerp, that will be used to demonstrate ammonia cracking and combustion in a process furnace with a multiple burner configuration - with Bhupesh Dhungel PhD, Ken Kaiser, Guillaume Lodier, Michael Lutz, Remi Tsiava, Dieter Ulber, Lorenzo Vicari and Bryce W. If you are visiting the ICC in Lyon next week, look me up to talk catalysis in booth number 6! We can talk about the content of this post, or what ever other subject you like. https://lnkd.in/dmZ72W_7 #hulteberg #catalysis
At Hulteberg we love two things: the environment and catalysts, and we like to combine the benefits of these for the chemical and petrochemical industries. If you are interested in this as well, please reach out to us and we'll be happy to discuss. And if you are visiting the International Congress on Catalysis in Lyon, please look us up in booth number 6! https://lnkd.in/d2d5E94M #hulteberg #catalysis

“Japanese oil firm to invest $130m into scaled-up #liquidorganichydrogencarrier plant in Australia” “Eneos had previously installed a 150kW #electrolyser in Queensland, with small volumes of MCH transported to Japan for use in #fuelcellvehicles “ “Polly Martin - 3 December 2024 “Japanese oil company Eneos has promised to invest A$200m ($130m) into a new type of electrolyser in Queensland, Australia, which can directly produce a #liquidorganic #hydrogencarrier , #methylcyclohexane (#MCH ), from water and a chemical called #toluene that is present in #gasoline .“ “The Japanese company had previously installed a 150kW pilot “Direct MCH” plant in Queensland in January, to demonstrate a technology which converts water (#H2O) and toluene (#C7H8 ) to oxygen (#O2) and MCH (#C7H14 ) in a single step.” “MCH is a clear, colourless liquid that has similar properties to other #hydrocarbons , meaning it can be stored and transported using standard #oilindustry equipment — a far more attractive proposition, in principle, than transporting highly toxic #ammonia or #liquidH2 that requires temperatures of minus-253°C.” https://lnkd.in/gDsN7-CW Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

IPP to Market BASF's #Ammonia, Methanol, and Melamine Plants in Germany BASF and International Process Plants (IPP), a global leader in the acquisition and sale of process plants and equipment, have entered an agreement to market ammonia, methanol, and melamine plants located at BASF’s Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, #Germany. In the wake of structural adjustments at its Ludwigshafen facility, aimed at maintaining a competitive edge in the evolving European market, BASF has made its plants available. This move was initially announced in February 2023. Despite these changes, #BASF will persist in the production of ammonia and methanol at other units within the Ludwigshafen site. The financial specifics of the agreement between the two companies remain confidential, as mutually agreed upon. The deal encompasses the consolidated production facilities for ammonia (with an annual capacity of 380,000 metric tons), methanol (165,000 metric tons per year), and melamine (51,000 metric tons per year). IPP is presenting these top-tier production units for relocation and sale to eligible purchasers who have projects involving such assets and are seeking opportunities for reduced capital expenditure and expedited project implementation timelines.
