End of Gulfood; Start of Operation! As the sun sets on another successful edition of the Gulfood Exhibition, I am compelled to express my profound inspiration derived from the event. My participation in Gulfood 2024 has been nothing short of invigorating, and I'm truly humbled by the experience. The event, known as the largest food exhibition in Dubai, united F&B communities from an astonishing 127 countries, setting an international stage like no other. Navigating through the expanses—spanning 24 halls and over 1 million sqft—it was evident why Gulfood is the pinnacle event for global brands, with more than 5,000 major names present from 125 countries. Each conversation and handshake held the promise of future success. I'm excited to announce that during this prolific exhibition, I've connected with more than 100 genuine and serious business partners within the Sugar and Edible Oils sectors—each interaction fuelling the determination and vision for what lies ahead. The opportunities uncovered during Gulfood 2024 are not just about expansion—they are about forging relationships that are set to redefine industry standards. The sheer volume and quality of exhibitors, over 5,500, provide a testament to the robust nature of this marketplace. As I reflect on the economic vitality of our host city, where foreign nationals comprise almost 90 percent of the population and a GDP that speaks to tremendous growth and potential, I am more convinced than ever that the decisions we make today are laying the foundation for a prosperous future. Sharing a few thoughts on #sustainability within the restaurant industry ahead of the The Speciality Food Festival I invest a significant amount of time thinking of the various applications within our business, engaging in learning, measuring progress, applying sustainable practices, and advocating for better practices. Having dedicated sustainability officers, whether on a full-time, part-time, or integrated basis within existing roles, can greatly assist in aligning an organization with attainable goals. This alignment allows for the integration of sustainability practices throughout the operation, education of teams, commitment to specific targets, and rigorous measurement of progress against those targets. Our ultimate goal is to reduce our impact and, in some instances, transition to making a positive one. With dedicated efforts, we can transform sustainability practices from a mere checkbox exercise into strategies that deliver tangible, substantial results. Dubai Industrial City saw a big increase in its food and beverage (F&B) customers in 2023. 12 new F&B businesses joined the area during the year, showing that Dubai Industrial City is becoming a popular place for food manufacturing and innovation. These new businesses invested a total of AED800 million in the area. Overall, Dubai Industrial City's customer base grew by 17% in 2023. Now, more than 1,000 local, regional, and global manufacturing leaders, including big names in the F&B industry, are based there. This growth was announced during the Gulfood 2024 exhibition in Dubai, which is one of the world's biggest F&B trade shows. Dubai Industrial City showcased innovations from ten of its customers, including well-known names like Patchi, Al Barakah Dates, and Barakat Quality Plus. The executive vice president of Industrial at TECOM Group PJSC, Saud Abu Alshawareb, talked about how important advanced manufacturing is for global food security. He highlighted the role of Dubai Industrial City in promoting sustainable food systems and creating economic opportunities. Dubai Industrial City was set up in 2004 with a focus on different sectors including F&B. It's now home to over 300 factories. The F&B zone alone covers a huge area of 23.5 million square feet and hosts both local and international F&B industry giants. The infrastructure in Dubai Industrial City supports sustainable production practices and helps in achieving national goals related to socioeconomic development and environmental protection.
