🎉 Did you know that today is World Creativity and Innovation Day? It's the perfect occasion to celebrate fresh, inventive solutions that foster equity and inclusion in ensuring access to safe, fair, and affordable housing. 🏠 In our upcoming report, "PHA Pathways to Advancing Equity," PAHRC delves into the initiatives of Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) striving to fulfill their commitment to promoting safe, fair, and affordable housing. Through 16 interviews and over 20 case studies, we've discovered a strong dedication among PHAs to enhancing equity within their properties. 🩺 One standout PHA leading the charge is Rutland Housing Authority. Their Support and Service at Home (SASH) program aims to improve health outcomes for all older adults in their community. SASH, initiated by Cathedral Square in Vermont in 2009, offers health and wellness assessments, care plans, coordination, and programs to enable seniors to age in place. Since its implementation, Rutland Housing Authority has witnessed remarkable impacts, including increased vaccination rates, decreased hypertension cases, and even lives saved. Today, let's all take inspiration from Rutland Housing Authority and brainstorm new, creative approaches to address opportunities for community improvement. 👉 Watch for our upcoming report, "PHA Pathways to Advancing Equity," to learn more about the diverse initiatives PHAs are undertaking to promote equity and advance fair, safe, and affordable housing. #WorldCreativityandInnovationDay #EquitableHousing #InnovativeApproaches #PHAInitiatives #WCIW #WCID #Equity #IAmCreative #Research #DataStories

Housing choices for people with mobility impairments and physical disabilities can be limited, sometimes leaving long-term care facility placement as the only viable option. Meanwhile, many essential direct workers who provide care cannot afford housing near their places of work. It's time to pilot a new approach combining affordable, accessible housing with integrated workforce housing to meet the needs of your town’s most vulnerable residents…Introducing 3i HoME’s Caring Communities. Caring Communities is our mixed-income, universally designed, person-centered neighborhood model now being planned. Without regard to age or income, this concept will feature accessible housing, utilize enhanced care coordination and other transportation solutions. These neighborhoods will be composed of 15-20 smart, green-engineered homes. Our Caring Communities will also have access to many of the benefits of our Scarborough location at The Downs and our MATH/ATEC. Contact us for more information at https://lnkd.in/eqtPsR2D

Aging in place is not a new concept but it is one that demands more intentional discussion, planning and implementation within our communities! Why...glad u ask... Promoting aging in place within our local communities is crucial for ensuring the well-being and quality for all of us! . How we age and our ability to do so effectively is greatly influenced by various factors including income level, education, access to transportation, availability of healthcare services, and the overall safety and accessibility of our neighborhoods. The zip code where you live can significantly impact your ability to age in place. Disparities in resources, services, and infrastructure across different zip codes can either support or hinder this goal. Local cities and counties like Chattanooga/Hamilton County should actively embrace and promote aging in place as a core principle in urban planning and community development. By doing so, they can address housing supply and demand issues, enhance housing affordability not only for seniors but for everyone , and improve general infrastructure to accommodate the needs as we ALL are aging in place! This matters because how we address this NOW locally can lead to more inclusive, age-friendly communities that support the well-being and independence of all residents, regardless of their age or socioeconomic status! This is not an older persons issue but rather a human issue! We all age!!! #policymatters #agingNplace #SDOHs

Seniors deserve to age in place with dignity and comfort. Transitioning to appropriately modified 55+ communities ensures accessibility, safety, and social engagement. The difficulty is finding communities that are modified properly. Let's support initiatives that empower our elders to live independently and happily, but also focus on client specific recommendations to ensure safety and independence. Nothing cookie-cutter. #ada does not apply in these situations and #universaldesign is another blanket term that redirects the focus away from a client-centered approach. #SeniorLiving #AgingInPlace #55PlusCommunities #downsizing doesn't mean sacrificing #independence . By relocating to 55+ communities with personally tailored modifications, seniors can enjoy the freedom to live life on their terms while receiving the support they need. Let's prioritize dignified aging for our elders. #callbeforemomfalls #fallprevention

Life in a rural community can be wildly different than urban life. That's why our most recent infographic's topic is about the intersection of rural life with having a disability. But for starters, we wanted to clarify which communities in Utah would be considered rural. This and one other official definition help paint the picture. #UtahDisabilityDiversity #DisabilityDiversity #Rural #RuralLife #RuralCommunities
