Today’s government response to the Disability Royal Commission is deeply unsettling for children and young people with disability. The Federal Government’s decision to merely ‘note’ the recommendation to phase out segregated education, and the lack of clear commitment from states and territories, is a disappointing shirking of responsibility. “Today’s response is a failure of leadership and a betrayal of children and young people with disability across the country,” said CYDA CEO Skye Kakoschke-Moore. Read the full statement here: https://lnkd.in/gRpJAyfJ #DisabilityRoyalCommission #DisabilityAdvocacy #InclusiveEducation #StartingTogetherStayingTogether ID: Orange, white, and green text reads “Media Statement. CYDA calls for Federal leadership on inclusive education in wake of disappointing DRC government response. Adjunct Associate Professor Di Winkler has published a Conversation article on how the NDIS review and royal commission recommendations could transform disability housing. Both reports note that big changes are needed so that people with disability can choose from a range of quality housing and living services where they are free from abuse, neglect and exploitation. "New models of housing that foster independence and enable the delivery of efficient support are critical to containing rising costs and ensuring scheme sustainability." Adjunct Associate Professor Winkler contends that new housing and living solutions need to be both evidence-based and co-designed. "Adequate housing is fundamental to unlocking the potential of people with disability who want to work, contribute to society and be part of the community," she writes. "Success will see less segregation and more inclusive housing for people with disability." Read more: https://bit.ly/47VTl0z #LaTrobeAlliedHealthHumanServicesAndSport #Conversation #Disability
