Thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act, passed 34 years ago today, our self-advocates have a legislative lodestar to look up to. Many of these intrepid leaders and future leaders gathered together to chart their course of action for the 2024-25 legislative season. We strive for the legacy of #ADA34 to be just a preview of things to come for the families we support.

Everybody stand back, there’s a crime scene underway in this kitchen! 🚨🔪🧑🍳 Staff members and people from our Day Hab programs based their annual cooking challenge on the hot TV show “Crime Scene Kitchen” where bakers must figure out what was just made using clues left behind in the cooking area. Check out how everyone did in our video!

Our Advance & Earn program celebrated the achievements of cohorts 8 and 9 at Staten Island's St. George Theatre. We honored pre-HSE, HSE, and DSP participants who completed the program, surrounded by proud alumni, families, and business partners. We are proud of participants who achieved milestones - many earned their #GEDs and #DSP certifications, while others made significant progress towards these goals. From completing internships to securing new jobs, participants gained valuable experiences, knowledge, and skills. Interested in joining the next cohort? Advance & Earn is enrolling for Fall 2024!

75 years of AHRC NYC was recognized at our Annual Meeting, graciously hosted by our friends at Pace University. It’s always our favorite time of the year to come together and celebrate our past, present, future accomplishments. Here’s to 75 more years of creating better lives for people with #disabilities and their families.

July is Disability Pride Month! The Disability Pride Flag, designed in 2019 by Ann Magill, has five colors representing different types of disabilities: red (physical disabilities), gold (neurodivergence), white (invisible and undiagnosed disabilities), blue (psychiatric disabilities), and green (sensory disabilities), with all stripes facing diagonally to symbolize the societal barriers disabled people face. We strive daily to create environments where people with disabilities feel pride in their day-to-day activities and lifestyle choices, and where the power of difference is celebrated and encouraged. This month and every month, we hope you join us in this mission to create a better world for all people, regardless of ability.
