A new #CalltoAction, launched on #UHCday by MOMENTUM Safe Surgery and many implementing partners, highlights five priority actions to support postpartum and post-abortion #FamilyPlanning (PPFP and PAFP) scale up in #UHC: 1️⃣ Integrate PPFP and PAFP across the six WHO health system building blocks, with an emphasis on stewardship, governance, and leadership to enable adequate health financing and workforce. 2️⃣ Engage communities to address stigma, bias, social and gender norms, and understand client motivation and needs for accessing PPFP/PAFP services, including via digital tools. 3️⃣ Engage and strengthen the private sector, expand what the private sector can provide, and assure quality. 4️⃣ Strengthen health information system coverage indicators for counseling and measurement of voluntary PPFP/PAFP uptake for more reliable data. 5️⃣ Reallocate financial resources for equitable access. Another heartbreaking but important read. The realities of dealing with pretty much these exact situations are still fresh in my mind. As a health advocate and communicator, it was maddening to get stuck in those conversations. All my key messages and clear call to action fell onto death ears. I am not even talking about the hostage-like negotiations I had to navigate with my surgical teams once I got the referrals.
