The SNSF and FONSTI have issued an invitation to the Global Research Council’s conference from 27-30 May 2024 in Interlaken. The result is a Statement of Principles with important recommendations for more sustainable research: - Research funders recognise their responsibility as regards sustainable development - International, multilateral cooperation between financial backers and researchers - Flexible financial support for longer-term research activities - Researchers and funding institutions engage in a dialogue with society - Build up trust in society via traceable actions The statement emphasises that research has an impact on scientific systems, that it should deploy its resources over the longer term and that it should become more sustainable overall. “We are living in dynamic times with fast-paced change and global challenges. It is our responsibility to contribute to the goals of sustainable development through cooperation in research,” says Matthias Egger, President of the SNSF Research Council. A total of 60 research funders from around the world met at the annual conference to discuss the research of tomorrow. “As representatives of the Global South, we believe it is very important for us to contribute our view as countries of this region,” says Yaya Sangaré, Secretary General of FONSTI. The annual budget of the research funders represented in the GRC amounts to an estimated 80 billion dollars. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gVMdvUpf #grc24 #sustainability #research #science #cooperation #research #science
