Marco van der Zwaag is part of the engineering #traineeship at Bilfinger Tebodin. “I am involved in thorough #engineering and #construction stages, initially serving as a project engineer during the detailed design stage and subsequently transitioning within the civil department as site engineer in the construction phase.”   “I collaborate on a biodiesel plant, focusing specifically on the pre-treatment unit within the plant. This unit manages all waste materials and implements pre-treatment processes to ensure that the resulting substances are thoroughly cleaned before being transported to other facilities.” “In the civil domain, I function as a site engineer, offering guidance to contractors, proactively addressing construction-related queries, and promptly resolving ad hoc issues that emerge during the construction phase. When faced with challenges, I come up with solutions and recalculate as needed to ensure a smooth construction process. The time constraint is always a crucial factor to minimize delays. It is important for me to maintain a good relationship by open communication with both the client and the contractor to achieve the desirable solutions.“ “Being present on the construction site provides a perspective that might not be considered during the design phase which allows valuable feedback. Practical challenges often reveal nuances that may not be apparent in the theory.”

Today we announce an investment in subsea HVDC cable manufacturer XLCC to help them to develop a new world-leading factory in Hunterston in Scotland. Once complete, it will have capacity to produce thousands of km each year of HVDC cable, which will be capable of transporting energy over long distances with significantly increased efficiency. The Hunterston factory will create around 900 permanent jobs including more than 200 apprenticeships, meaning the factory is also helping to create the manufacturing skills the country needs to support the growth of the UK as a global hub for offshore wind.  John Flint, #UKIB CEO, said: “Industry projections indicate that demand for subsea cables will soon exceed existing supply chain capacity. Our support for XLCC is intended to provide confidence to the market, crowding private investment into this sector to boost production capacity in an industry set to have a significant impact on the UK‘s transition to #NetZero.” Read more about this deal: https://lnkd.in/ggC-GXWJ

Perhaps today, after a long negotiation period, another puzzle in the energy transition is being addressed. UK Infrastructure Bank has invested into a key supply chain manufacturing industry that could contribute to interconnectors of the world. If right ingredients by way of policy support come into play in the near future, this will enable a very cost effective solution to long distance subsea transmission projects in the North West European region.

The world's 2 largest hydrogen ships are to be built in Norway Torghatten Nord has chosen the Norwegian Myklebust Verft AS Shipyard for the construction of two hydrogen ferries, which will carry up to 120 cars on Norway's longest ferry route between Bodø and Lofoten. The ferries will be the world's largest hydrogen ships, and will be bunkered with hydrogen produced in Bodø. The contract for the construction of the 117 meter long ferries means increased staffing and high activity at the shipyard for the foreseeable future. Together with the maritime cluster in Norway, they will develop new knowledge, secure jobs and be able to take on more apprentices . The ferries will be delivered from Myklebust Verft during 2026. The suppliers of design, technology, equipment and hydrogen in the project are Norwegian, and the project also has close cooperation with the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and the class company Lloyd's Register to develop procedures and safety standards for a completely new type of ferries . https://lnkd.in/eiznjYH5 #hydrogen #export #energy #shipbuilding

Hidrostal Engineering UK – supporting the next generation of aspiring engineers 🎓 As an award-winning service centre and engineering powerhouse we are happy to help guide the development of young minds within the local community. As school terms wind down for the summer we are busier than ever, but not too busy to answer the call for knowledge.
