Fantastic news for the Porcupine Caribou!
The Inuvialuit and Canada are leading the way in protecting both the Porcupine Caribou and traditional homelands across the Arctic with a newly established 850,000-hectare protected area. But in Alaska, the herd’s calving grounds remain unprotected – and under threat from destructive oil and gas. Protecting their ENTIRE range ensures the survival of this herd, future generations of caribou, and the culture, traditions, and livelihoods of Indigenous people across the Arctic. It’s time for the U.S. to follow suit and ensure this irreplaceable landscape is protected, not just for now – for good. #ProtectOurArctic
