Breaking Down Barriers, Embracing Identity I don't celebrate disability. I fight it. Disability is imposed on me when my rights are violated, when I'm excluded. It's not something to accept or embrace. But my impairment? That's a different story. I've learned to love and accept my impairment as part of who I am. It's how I operate, how I navigate the world. Let's distinguish between: Impairment: A natural part of human diversity. Disability: A societal construct born from exclusion. I'll keep advocating for: Inclusion Accessibility Equity Human Rights Join Fanie Dreams in breaking down barriers and building a world where everyone can thrive! #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #Accessibility #Equity #HumanRights #SocialModelOfDisability #ImpairmentPride Feel free to share! Inclusion drives innovation: In the 4th century B.C., depictions of people with disabilities began to contrast with the idealized figures of Greek art, raising profound questions about human experience and equality. Today, we’ve made significant strides, with laws like the American Disability Act in the US, the Equality Act in the UK, and similar legislation across the globe, protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities. As we enter October, BlackRobin Group proudly supports National Disability Employment Awareness Month relaying the message and work done by Disability:IN, a non-profit that helps businesses become more inclusive. We look forward to furthering its mission to promote inclusion, diversity, and sustainable growth, both within our organisation and in partnership with others. #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityEmployment #InclusiveWorkplace #EqualOpportunities #AccessibilityMatters #WorkplaceDiversity #NDEAM (National Disability Employment Awareness Month) #DisabilityRights #impactinvestment #highconviction #convertiblebonds #creditderivatives #fixedincome #blackrobingroup

How do we make leadership accessible to people with disabilities? There are 1.3 billion people globally living with a disability and yet we see a shockingly low number of them in leadership positions. At the One Young World Summit Belfast our Ambassadors Senator Crystal Asige, Senator of the Republic of Kenya, and Emeline Lakrout, Para-Athlete and disability rights advocate, discussed the importance of having more people with disabilities in leadership positions and how that can be achieved. Watch their full discussion: https://bit.ly/3Xis9Xv Emeline's top tips for making your organisation disability-friendly: prioritise accessibility in everything that you do from events to content creation ask how you can integrate disability into what you do join or start a disability-focused group, such as adaptive fitness share the stories of disability activists. PWD can contribute positively to the society, but they are often dismissed and overlooked because we lack the knowledge and understanding of this community. https://lnkd.in/gy_p5bdd We can springboard Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) from early education. Young children have greater empathy than adults. We must start at a young age, to allow neurotypical kids to mix and mingle with children with special needs Unfortunately, our mainstream education is practicing exclusion by putting PWD children in special class (PPKI). How are we going to narrow the diversity gap if we don’t start creating the awareness and have safe space for children to interact with each other as they grow up? #diversity #equality #inclusion

As part of National Inclusion Week, we are very excited to launch our new "Talk To Us, Ask Us, Listen To Us" video! We hope you will take the time to watch this video and contemplate what it means to you. It's a fantastic film that shares important insights into how those we support feel when they face exclusion. Unfortunately people with disabilities still sometimes feel excluded due to various barriers, both visible and invisible, that exist in society. These barriers can deepen the feeling of being marginalised and overlooked, casting a shadow that makes it painfully hard for individuals with disabilities to truly experience the warmth of inclusion in society. Addressing these issues requires intentional efforts to create inclusive environments that recognise and value the diversity of all individuals. Inclusivity is one of The Wilf Ward Family Trust's values, and we strive to always maintain inclusive and respectful relationships, and hope we can encourage others to do the same too. #NationalInclusionWeek #NationalInclusionWeek2024 #Inclusion #ImpactMatters #TalkToMeListenToMeIncludeMe https://buff.ly/3T36kYL Autism Speaks Ambitious about Autism Inclusive Employers Scope Hft The National Diversity Awards Stand Out Socks ✌️🧡🧦 York City Football Club Mencap Mind Disability Rights UK VODG (Voluntary Organisations Disability Group) Community Integrated Care Dementia UK

Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month? It's an opportunity to raise awareness of disabilities, start positive conversations and celebrate the diversity and differences of our disabled communities. No matter what the month means to individuals, the main focus is to be proud of being disabled and for people to be unapologetically themselves. So how can you step up as allies this month and beyond? ⚫️ Advocate for flexible work policies 🟤 Support disabled owned businesses ⚪️ Get involved in your Disability ERG ⚫️ Sponsor disabled future leaders 🟤 Review policies and language for ableist standards ⚪️ Remove ableist hiring practices But most importantly, ask your disabled friends, colleagues, and communities how you can best support them in the ways they need. Your work as an ally begins today. #Allyship #Inclusion #DisabilityPrideMonth #InclusionMatters #DisabilityInclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Equity #Belonging

Doctor of Philosophy, public speaker, consultant, academic researcher, blogger, and advocate for disability rights. My mission is to explore, challenge and change perceptions of disability
‘Minority groups including disabled people have fought long and hard for their rights and continue to do so. This is vitally important in order to tackle inequality. Of course whilst I believe that it has been important for disabled people to fight to gain equality and to have their voices heard, I believe that it’s now time to shift towards a more ‘Affirmative’ approach which celebrates difference and ultimately will close the binary divide between disabled and non-disabled people ‘ I’ve written a blog about why I believe that it is important to create an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion through encouraging people to think differently about disability’ https://lnkd.in/eN6M6xuK #wearealldisabled #WAAD #affirmtivemodel #inclusion #disruptor
