Last week over 1,100 delegates came together at the ICC Sydney for the 2024 ALDI Business Partner Conference - Good Different Today and Tomorrow. This was an opportunity to share our ambition, strategy, and plans so we can continue to grow together with our valued business partners.
ALDI’s success depends on being able to deliver great value for Australians. This is only possible thanks to our strong and long term partnerships built on the foundation of mutual success. A huge thanks to all those who joined us, here’s a small recap of the day.
We decided to host today's conference because it's a great opportunity to get all our suppliers in and understand the strategy that we've got for the future. The recognition I think that our supply partners are just as important as each and every team member that works at ALDI. And I think that's the exciting part is looking and what those mutual partnerships could look like, acknowledging the fact that we've had challenges and how we overcome those challenges. So showing them the vision many business partnership now for over 23 years and the interaction has just allowed us to be successful over a long period of time. It's been an amazing path over the last 22 years and we're we're really ready to support the growth plans that they have. So exciting to hear from their leadership. Our business is almost 50 years old, so when Ali arrived it was a really exciting opportunity for us. And apart from meeting some of the buyers, this is a very exciting opportunity to meet as many Audi executives. We love meeting the other suppliers, seeing the buyers and hearing the strategy. It's been great.
How does the SME-empowering cooperative business model of groups of independent retailers function?
In the EU, hundreds of thousands of independent retailers operate across many sectors as members of groups of independent retailers. Locally-anchored, they employ millions of people and offer excellent products and expertise. Their business model is key to their success, supporting their entrepreneurial spirit, their autonomy and the uniqueness of each of their stores.
Dedicated to serving them, their central cooperative structure, which they jointly own and control, enables them to unify their forces and flourish as a group as well as individually.
These family-run businesses make a very important contribution to our local economies.
The unique business model of groups of independent retailers merits recognition by EU and national policy makers to continue to benefit retail SMEs, consumers, local communities and society!

Last month, a momentous event took place in the retail sector!
The Australian Retailers Association and the National Retail Association signed a heads of agreement for a proposed amalgamation. This significant step aims to unify our voices to better represent and support the $420 billion retail sector.
ARA President Nicole Sheffield highlights, "Creating one unified voice for retail combines our strengths and supports the growth of a sector that employs one in ten Australians. Amid challenging times, this merger is a strategic move to enhance our advocacy and impact."
NRA Chair Tim Schaafsma adds, "With this amalgamation, we aim to elevate the retail sector's contribution to Australia's economic success and social wellbeing. We're moving forward with joint initiatives that promise a stronger, more unified representation."
By joining forces, ARA and NRA aim to support the industry's growth better and navigate challenges more effectively.

We have celebrated both our General Assembly and Board of EuroCommerce in these two last days in Brussels.
Challenging times for all and in particular for our sector of #retail and #wholesale with still uncertain times for the new European Government bodies being composed.
Very proud but never satisfied about the progress we made during the last years under the leadership of our director general Christel Delberghe and her team inspired and supported for the Vice-presidents, Board and all the members.
We are on the right way but still room for improvement towards our challenge to demonstrate the policy makers that we are an essential sector as the first private #employer in Europe, with #global champions as no other sector and key for the economic and social growth in the context of a more competitive #Europe in the world.
I face this second mandate at EuroCommerce as an opportunity to accelerate our consideration as a key and strategic sector for most of the European CommissionEuropean Parliament goals related to a more #competitive#sustainable#digital#responsible and #talented Europe.
