Alhamdulillah! Recently attended a seminar organized by the Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan shedding light on the importance of "blood donation" and dispelling common myths. Let's debunk some misconceptions together to encourage more life-saving donations! Myth: Donating blood is time-consuming.  Fact: It's efficient, taking just about an hour. Myth: Too much blood is taken by some blood banks which is harmful for the donor.  Fact: A fixed volume is taken per session, ensuring safety. Myth: Donating blood hurts.  Fact: It's a slight pinch upon needle insertion; painless afterward. Myth: I'm too old/young to donate.  Fact: Eligibility spans from 18 to 60 years. Myth: You can only donate once a year. Fact:  Whole blood donors can donate up to 6 times a year. READILY AVAILABLE life-saving equipment like blood glucose meters is crucial for our warriors. While donations are invaluable, sustainability must be a priority. There is no point making a donation of a glucometer that is not available on the local market as this means that warriors can not access strips when needed and that the donation is a one-and-done. Why should we save contact number of Eye Banks/Centers in our area whom you can call for eye donation????? 35 million people are BLIND or going blind in the developing world and most of them can be cured. Out of 3 million corneally blind people, 60% are children below the age of 12. Target retrieval of corneas by Eye bank of India is 150,000 corneas per year.
