Calcium is a vital mineral that plays a fundamental role in various physiological functions in the human body. It is crucial for maintaining strong bones and teeth, supporting proper nerve transmission, muscle function, and blood clotting. Understanding the importance of calcium, its daily requirements, and the main dietary sources can help ensure optimal health and well-being. Importance of Calcium for Human Health Calcium is best known for its role in promoting strong bones and teeth. It is essential during childhood and adolescence when bones are still developing, and calcium absorption is at its peak. However, calcium remains crucial throughout adulthood and into old age to maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Beyond its role in bone health, calcium also plays a vital role in nerve signal transmission, allowing muscles to contract and relax properly. Additionally, calcium is involved in blood clotting, supporting cardiovascular health. Daily Calcium Needs and Gender Differences The recommended daily intake of calcium varies based on age, gender, and life stage. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the adequate intake for calcium for adults is around 1000 mg per day for both men and women. However, during certain life phases, such as pregnancy and lactation, women’s calcium requirements increase to support the developing fetus and provide calcium for breast milk. The EFSA recommends 1000-1200 mg of calcium per day for pregnant and lactating women. Calcium Needs Throughout Life Calcium requirements vary at different phases in life. During childhood and adolescence, calcium is essential for bone development and growth. As individuals reach adulthood, calcium remains vital for maintaining bone density and reducing the risk of age-related bone loss. During pregnancy and lactation, calcium needs increase to support both maternal and fetal bone health. For postmenopausal women, calcium intake remains important in preventing osteoporosis. #FoodForThought #Nutrition #FoodSafety Find out more at https://alitudos.hr/

Eating undercooked pork can lead to neurocysticercosis. I had a discussion a few months ago with somebody about raw and cooked food. He was mentioning how better raw is. Supposedly all nutritional value was lost when foods are cooked. If you know that a food is high risk one when raw why eat it raw? I guess I will keep cooking my food and stay malnourished ☺️ #foodsafety #cysticercosis https://lnkd.in/eDHEnhiz

Pediatric Dietitian | Author | Parenting + Nutrition Speaker (Keynotes/Workshops) | Brand Consultant | Private Practice | Founder & CEO, The Nourished Child® website + podcast | Book: Kids Thrive at Every Size
As a pediatric registered dietitian of over 30 years, I’ve watched the world evolve as it relates to food, nutrition, and body size. Today, there’s more food shaming, polarized views of food, and more narratives centered on alleviating the emotional toll our social norms of body size and “healthy” eating have caused. And rightfully so. But as more attention focuses on children, food shaming and polarized views seem to be increasing. There’s no room at the table for this. I’m sharing where I stand on the issues of the anti-diet movement, food shaming, and sugary food. https://lnkd.in/e42k9_XM

It's beginning to look like Christmas 🌲☃️ Some persons think it's only when certain chemicals are added to someone's meal that could result in food poisoning. That's just an aspect of it. Other forms could through biological and/or physical contamination. We're in a season of merriment and fun. Speaking on Today95.1fm this morning. I discussed extensively on food poisoning during yuletide. I'll share a few tips that will help you minimize risk of food-borne illnesses this season: 📌 Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before preparing and eating food 🍜 If the food served isn't piping hot, rethink! 🍗 Eat thoroughly cooked meat (innermost layer should be brown in colour not red) 🍍🥕 Wash your fruits and veggies, endeavour to eat them everyday. Please stop with all the NOISE! The term "food noise" is going around a lot. But what is it? I see a little bit of different variations online, but overall the definition consists of the following ⏩ preoccupation of food ⏩ constant internal dialogue with ourselves to make (usually less healthy) food related decisions ⏩ interfering with other activities of life People that we take care of that are obese say this is a common issue for them. It's not that there stomach is always hungry, but it's that their brain still is telling them that they still want more food. Even if we haven't experienced a certain thing ourselves (as healthcare providers), it is crucial to learn about common things that our patients go through. At Nutrition Remedy RDs | Staffing Services, we 💜 to help the ones you take care of that are struggling with obesity (and obviously all the people you take care of in your communities). ------------------------------------------ Hi I'm Kim and me and my team 💜 providing the best nutrition care for your communities. ⏩ expert nutrition professionals (Registered Dietitians, Executive Chefs, Certified Dietary Managers/Food Service Directors, Registered Dietetic Technicians) ⏩ all 50 states ⏩ personalized services for your specific facility #healthcare #education #university #longtermcare #seniorliving #hospitals #nutrition #staffing

Helping Women Get Real Root Cause Answers To Their Health Struggles Beyond The Mainstream | Gut and Hormone Health | Nutritional Practitioner & Functional Blood Chem Specialist
All of a sudden you’re sensitive to certain foods and you thought a food sensitivity test would help you get to the root cause but you learn that… Food sensitivities are a byproduct of a compromised gut And your money is better spent on getting answers to why you have a compromised gut in the first place… To overcome your bloating, burping, belly pain, and uncomfortable bowel changes (constipation or diarrhea), get to the root cause of why you’re having a problem with so many foods… What to do instead👇🏻 1️⃣ PULSE TEST/ FOOD JOURNAL The pulse test and food journal is a great way to identify food triggers With the pulse test, you measure your pulse rate before eating and after you place the food in question in your mouth for at least 30 seconds. Compare the two and if your pulse rate increased by >6 points, the food is a problem With the food journal, track all your food and after each meal, write down any symptoms that may have increased or popped up, after the 3-7 days of tracking, look at patterns and pinpoint the specific foods you’re sensitive too 2️⃣ FUNCTIONAL BLOOD LABS Functional blood labs provides you a complete picture of what’s compromising the gut Monitoring your blood levels can also show you how your body is working together because everything is interconnected… When one area is imbalanced or not functioning in optimal ranges, other areas and organ systems decline in function too 3️⃣ GI MAP A GI MAP paired with blood labs takes a deeper look at the gut microbiome and where the imbalances are coming from Are you dealing with a lack of beneficial bacteria? Is there a bacterial, fungal, or parasitic problem? Is there gut inflammation from a viral pathogen or digestive dysfunction? Most of the time functional blood labs provide a sufficient amount of information to pinpoint root causes of your gut issues If you’re ready to understand why you’re having so many food sensitivities all of a sudden, it’s time to get to the root cause of your symptoms and start healing with personalized root cause solutions🧬✨ Send me a message and let’s chat!
