Another ‘significant’ oil discovery offshore in the Namibia Orange Basin. Semi-submersible Rig Hercules for Odfjell Drilling and client the Portuguese Galp spudded well Mopane-1X prospect, spudded on November 17, 2023, was the first of two wells planned to be drilled with the rig. Shortly after disclosing that the Mopane-1X well had shown preliminary signs of hydrocarbons, the Portuguese firm confirmed a “significant” discovery of light oil in reservoir-bearing sands of high quality. The Hercules rig was moved to the Mopane-2X well location to evaluate the extent of the Mopane discoveries. Galp has disclosed the Mopane-2X play also has proven to indicate significant hydrocarbons present. Galp are in good company in the region with both Shell and TotalEnergies also indicating significant shows in their own associated plays. #exploration #oilandgas #namibia #drillersshack

This year will be a big one for seismic acquisitions by Brazilian federal oil company Petrobras in the Pelotas basin, a source familiar with the matter told BNamericas. “In 2025 and 2026 this data will be interpreted. And, if our explorers find possible good prospects, then we can, as a consortium [Petrobras, Shell and CNOOC International], decide to drill wells,” the source said on condition of not being identified. Petrobras, in partnership with the Anglo-Dutch major and the Chinese firm, acquired several exploration blocks in the southern basin at the latest bidding round held by regulator ANP - Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis in December. Suriname update for the Noble Corporation Voyager Drillship. Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V confirmed that Petronas has commenced drilling in Suriname’s block 52. Drilling activities are being undertaken with the Noble Voyager under a 120-day contract with a one-well option. Last November, PETRONAS made a major oil discovery at the Roystonea-1 exploration well, which revealed several oil-bearing Campanian sandstone reservoir packages. This follows the Sloanea-1 gas discovery in 2020, which encountered several sandstone packages with good reservoir qualities in the Campanian section, as well. While TotalEnergies irons out plans for its development at the nearby block 58, block 52 offers potential for a second development offshore Suriname. Block 52, covering an area of 4,749 square kilometers, is located north of the coast of Paramaribo in the Guyana-Suriname basin. PETRONAS Suriname E&P, as the block’s operator, has a 50% participating interest and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Suriname B.V. holds the remaining 50%. #drilling #oilandgas #suriname #drillersshack

The Black Units keep delivering for Diamond Offshore and its clients such as Oxy on the BH… Diamond Offshore Drilling has secured a two-year contract extension with Occidental subsidiary Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in the US GOM for drillship Ocean BlackHawk. The extension begins in November 2024 in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract and replaces a one-year priced option agreed to in May 2023. Anadarko retains three one-year unpriced options for the rig. Diamond valued the new two-year extension at $350 million in additional backlog, excluding any managed pressure drilling services, puting the dayrate for the new extension at around $480,000. By comparison, the rig's current dayrate is around $420,000. The new award brings the company’s contract backlog to around $2.1 billion. The 12,000-ft Ocean BlackHawk started work for Oxy / Anadarko in November 2023. The rig was recently used to spud the Ocotillo well, which will be followed by the Orange exploration well. Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) told investors it has concluded its drilling campaign at the Anchois-3 well, located within the Lixus Offshore license off the coast of Morocco. The well, drilled by the Stena Forth drillship, reached a total depth of 3,045 meters in 349 meters of water. Initial analysis revealed multiple gas-bearing reservoirs within the B sands, though the gas columns were thinner than anticipated based on prior models. Deeper targets in the C and M sands contained water rather than gas, limiting the exploration results. No flow testing was conducted before the well was plugged and abandoned. "The Anchois East drilling campaign has evaluated all of the pre-drill reservoir targets, however results have not delivered as anticipated or in line with the excellent results of the previously drilled Anchois-2 well,” chief executive Adonis Pouroulis said in a statement. “The primary exploration objectives... 🌊 Equinor, in partnership with Aker BP ASA and utilizing Odfjell Drilling's Deepsea Stavanger rig, has made a significant oil discovery in the exploration well 30/12-3 S in the North Sea. 🚀 The drilling operation, located about 40 kilometers south of Oseberg and 150 kilometers west of Bergen, included a sidetrack, 30/12-3 A, which unfortunately turned out to be dry and has since been permanently plugged and abandoned, as confirmed by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate. 🛠️ This discovery takes place in the first well of production license 272 B, operated by Aker BP. Aker BP and Equinor jointly own 50% of the production license, which was awarded in APA 2018.
