I don't know what's a more bogus label- "cruelty-free" or "humane slaughter"? Let's start with the obvious oxymoron that is "humane slaughter"... According to the Cambridge Dictionary, "humane" is defined as "showing kindness, care and sympathy towards others". Therefore aren't the words "humane" and "slaughter" an utter contradiction in terms? Notwithstanding the procedures and methods used to mass slaughter farmed animals in a "humane" fashion, is there really a "humane" (or as a recent vegan-turned-omni burger restaurant in Sydney likes to call "higher-welfare") way to breed and murder a sentient being that values their existence and doesn't want to end their short life purely for human consumption? Then there's the ambiguity behind the "#crueltyfree" label... Whilst there's no legal definition for what constitutes a "cruelty-free" product, it's typically understood to be an end-product where no #animaltesting has occurred. But were any of the supplied ingredients tested on animals? Are the products sold in countries that necessitate animal testing? Was a third party used instead? And what about "cruelty-free" caviar where, rather than murder the female sturgeons for their eggs, the fish are cut open without pain relief to have their eggs ripped from their ovaries while alive?! (Never mind the incessant demands from the meat, poultry and seafood industries for more stringent labelling requirements for #plantbasedfoods given so many consumers are obviously being duped into believing they're buying animal products instead 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️)   With brands increasingly claiming to be more pro-ethical to boost their appeal and profitability, and the market allowing items such as "humane"/"higher welfare" meat or "cruelty-free" caviar, the real question is... ...who's really being duped here?!

In 1962, the TV series "The Twilight Zone" aired an episode called "To Serve Man" where non-terrestrials came to Earth to "Serve Man" and "show humans how to live peacefully with one another." Their book "to serve man" was actually a cookbook to eat humans. In The Planet of the Apes, they enslaved stupid humans that couldn't talk and in The Matrix, more intelligent non-biologics used humans as batteries to supply energy. This theme is common through human storytelling because it is the way we treat other life, as objects, commodities, or simply "food". These stories are meant to help humans gain perspective in their relationships to other living beings. But this message has been calling to us through the ages "Do Unto Others, As You Would Have Them Do Unto You". Are we listening yet?

Why LinkedIn, why are you showing me this stuff. I'm a dedicated and faithful meat eater, why you show me plant based stuff. To the author: everything on planet earth lives, that includes plants...the end

This is precisely why the meat/dairy/egg and animal testing industries keep the public in the dark of what really happens behind closed doors to the victims. Transparency would be a gamechanger for the many that have been conditioned by society not to think or question.

Allen Zelden you’re right those words don’t go together. Also the comic logic would work, if aliens got replaced by an #AGI / #AI …

Absolutely. And the sick thing is that the ones who profit from so called ethically sourced meat or humane meat or ‘cruelty free’ animal products is actually the exploiterers themselves as they can sell it for more, because they got people’s consciences thinking that it is somehow less bad than standard animal products, so they happily pay more. It’s quite sickening

Allen Zelden For context, Soul Burger has not “turned Omni”. It’s Randwick location has closed down as the franchisee couldn’t make it financially viable. As the founder, I decided to take it over rather than let it close. If it closes it becomes a regular meat-heavy, factory farmed heavy restaurant. Like what replaces every other vegan restaurant. In its place, we’ve opened up a new concept called Humble Burger Co. Humble has a “plant-centric” menu, which is 80% plant-based and all default sides/shakes/sauces etc are all plantbased. We have 6 GrassFed beef burgers which are infused with shiitake mushrooms. Every time an omnivore customer walks out of soul burger randwick and eats next door; or if soul burger randwick closes altogether - there is significant animal consumption. When they eat at Humble, they can eat a meal with shakes, sides, sauces etc and they would consume around 10% of the meat/animal products they would have. The mission of soul burger was to replace animals in the food system. Sadly it hasn’t been viable at Randwick. The mission of Humble is to help customers reduce meat consumption. This is about harm reduction above all. We consulted multiple people in the animal ethics space prior to doing it.

Allen Zelden, I’m reading the book "Homo Deus". Yuval Noah Harari suggests that the rise of AI will likely change how we treat animals. As #AI advances, our perceptions of #intelligence and #consciousness may shift, leading to greater #empathy and ethical considerations for animals. AI could improve #animalwelfare through #sustainablefarming practices and the development of #alternativeproteins, reducing the need for traditional animal farming. Harari argues that as we face #ethical dilemmas with AI, maintaining humane values in our treatment of animals becomes increasingly important. The way we treat animals could reflect our humanity in an AI-driven future.
