Like every week, we want to ensure that we share the latest news, articles, reports and trends in #FeministFunding. This week, however, we would be remiss not to share news that has shaken and angered our peers, partners and allies with regard to the continued onslaught on the rights and dignity of women and girls across the world. From Afghanistan to India to Kenya to France, all of these cases are painful reminders of why the Alliance's members come together to support and #FundFeminists for movements to continue to carry out their urgent work. It’s International Women’s Day! 😔 This year, I believe there is nothing to celebrate, as long as women and girls in Gaza, Tigray, Sudan, Afghanistan and beyond are being killed and abused. Women and girls, especially those in conflict-affected settings, are disproportionately affected by: 🚨Increased risks of gender-based violence 🚨Loss of livelihood opportunities 🚨Greater food insecurity The world is at crossroads for #GenderEquality, standing up for women’s rights is more CRUCIAL than ever. That’s why at UN Women, this #InternationalWomensDay, we are calling to #InvestInWomen to accelerate progress for gender equality. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ezmmjKRh #IWD2024

Africa Agenda 2063 calls for a more inclusive society and places women and girls at the centre of Africa’s development agenda. It seeks to enhance the leadership of women in the transformation of Africa with a focus on peace, security, governance and sustainable development. The Gender Agenda on SDGs, seeks to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in all spheres and end all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere. At the Pan African Youth Convention we seek to have a discourse on inclusion and meaningful participation of women and girls in all spheres buttressed by the two blueprints. Hon. Vedna Lacombe-Heywood from League of Women Voters, United States will be sharing insights on: From Margins to Mainstream; Women’s Role in Democracy and Governance with perspective from Africa and the Diaspora. World Future Policy Award 2024 : Finalist Spotlight 1. Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (2017) Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), focuses on promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Its feminist approach addresses systemic gender inequalities, engages men and boys, and fosters inclusive participation. The policy has been implemented in countries like Afghanistan (supporting women’s rights and economic empowerment), Iraq (establishing centres for survivors of sexual violence), Senegal (empowering women in agriculture), and Cambodia (improving food security through climate-resilient agriculture). The FIAP’s influence extends to international development policies, contributing to sustainable peace and security initiatives. As Canada approaches its 2025 elections, continued support for policies like FIAP, which promote gender equality and peace, remains crucial. Leading up to the #InternationalDayofTheGirl, today’s generation of girls across Kenya and the world is disproportionately affected by global crises of climate, conflict, poverty, and pushback on the hard-won gains for human rights and gender equality. Too many girls are still denied their basic human rights, restricting their choices and limiting their futures. With the right support, resources, and opportunities, the potential of the world’s more than 1.1 billion girls is limitless. When girls lead, the impact is immediate and wide-reaching - families, communities, and economies are all stronger and more progressive. It is time to listen to girls, to invest in proven solutions that will accelerate progress toward a future in which every girl can fulfill her potential. #SDG5 #Empowerment #InternationalDayofTheGirl #HumanRights #GenderEquality #Leadership #SocialJustice WECARE YOUTH ORGANIZATION FEMNET - African Women's Development and Communication Network UNESCO UN Women UK World Justice Project CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation African Union Youth Division Community-Led Solutions CBO

Our team is dedicated to learning and unlearning about Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) barriers in the communities we serve through the #Girls4SaferHood project supported by UNDP KENYA We keep asking Who has the power and control? Being powerful means people are in a position to make decisions, control resources, and direct what others do. Analyzing what gives people power is a first step in addressing gender inequalities within the family and society. Different degrees of power determine how men and women view their own capacities and the capacities of their partner, the level they are allowed to participate in decision making, and the extent they can control their own lives. These are more are what the project is aiming to unpack and address in the long run amonst girls and young women in Kisumu County. #girlscandoit Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kenya UNDP Africa

Coalition in Zimbabwe-Regional Office serves as a hub for regional advocacy on the resolution of Zimbabwe's multi-facated challenges, crystallizing around what is commonly refered to as the ''Zimbabwe's question''.
On International Women’s Day, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) appreciates the role of women in advocating for socio-economic and political rights and defending the civic and democratic space in Zimbabwe. This year’s theme, “Invest in women: Accelerate Progress” highlights the pivotal role of women in development processes and this should be anchored on gender equality as well as women and girls’ empowerment. The 2024 theme resonates with our position for inclusive and equitable distribution of resources and opportunities in Zimbabwe. The theme also aligns with Section 80 of the Zimbabwean Constitution which stipulates that every woman has full and equal dignity of the person with men and this includes equal opportunities in political, economic, and social activities. #internationaldayofwomen #womenempowerment #Zimbabwe

On July 18 every year, we celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day. But volunteerism and community involvement deserve more than just one day. Today, we celebrate the return of #YALIServes, the campaign that highlights and encourages the positive role volunteerism plays in benefiting communities. With you, we look forward to honoring the legacy of Nelson Mandela through positive community impact all month long. Why do we care about volunteerism? According to the 2022 State of World’s Volunteerism Report by the U.N. Volunteers, volunteering can have a great impact on development and inclusive growth. Partnerships between volunteers and state authorities can help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. But challenges remain, including gender inequality and inconsistent data and reporting. The U.N. report explores these concepts and features three African case studies: How farmers in the Democratic Republic of Congo collaborate with their government to tackle agriculture issues; How volunteers and state authorities in Senegal are partnering to co-produce services for gender equality; and How volunteers in Malawi are shaping innovative ways of working to tackle sexual and reproductive health and rights challenges.
