February 28 is HIV Criminalization Awareness Day. It has been observed since 2022 and was organized by the Sero Project, a non-profit organization, in collaboration with the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. The day commemorates the criminalization, stigma, and discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS and calls for action to overcome these issues. Although HIV criminalization is gradually decreasing in many countries, stigma and discrimination in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region remain serious problems that require further efforts by governments, civil society organizations, and society at large. But there have been positive developments in this complex process in recent years. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eqiQusns

A staggering 210,000 adolescent girls and young women (aged 15-24) in sub-Saharan Africa contracted HIV in 2022 alone, according to the UN. This critical issue demands ongoing action. That's why we're proud to partner with the Kaana Foundation For Outreach Programs. This non-profit empowers young people, women, and children affected by HIV and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) challenges. Their work directly contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), while supporting the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets for HIV treatment. HIV and the law. If you are living with HIV and somebody tells somebody else your status without consent this is breaking your confidentiality and you are protected by law. It may seem daunting but this is a great read on the law and HIV status. This post also highlights that despite funding cuts and organisations like this not being able to continue you can see the information they provided was a huge asset to the HIV community and organisations who like us often signposted people to this site. Community support still changes lives and is an important part of an HIV journey, therefore funding is so very important please support local organisations where and when you can #HIVcommunity #HIVcharities #fundingcutshurtsrealpeople #supportyourlocalHIVorganisation #localcharity #BPDorset

Very distressing resource gaps at the time when we need press acceleration to get back on track with HIV targets. All most all key, vulnerable and underserved populations are at the bottom of this philanthropy AIDS funding tracker. Yooo, for women and girls who represent 53% of the world’s people living with HIV (PLWH)—declined by 45% in 2022, marking its lowest level in six years. The AIDS funding inequities by region, population and even amounts of money between regions is extremely alarming.

📢Over the past decade, the number of people getting HIV has fallen significantly, but Uganda's HIV infection rate is still one of the highest in the world. While prevention of mother-to-child transmission has made major headway in limiting new HIV infections among newborns,we must also pay particular attention to factors contributing to new cases, especially among adolescent girls and young women. 📌Mbarara City records an alarming, over 1,000 new HIV infections in six months. According to Ms Joyce Tibaijuka of the Mbarara City Forum of People living with HIV,high illiteracy levels, limited comprehensive knowledge on HIV/AIDs, poverty, stigma and discrimination, gender inequality and sexual violence have been cited as the major factors linked to the high prevalence of HIV among adolescent girls and young women in the region. Effective advocacy involves taking evidence and telling a compelling story to drive the change we strive for. The #AnnualGlobalAIDSUpdate, released yesterday, provides insights into the progress we have made so far and what remains to be done. I will be reflecting on the data to understand the story it tells us. It is remarkable that between 2010 to 2023, there was a significant decrease in new HIV infections in children aged 0–14 years with a 62% global reduction. This means that we know the actionable steps required to continue this positive trend. Despite the progress, the past decade has shown a concerning #stagnation in the decline of #verticaltransmission. Last year alone, 120,000 children contracted HIV, resulting in 1.4 million children living with HIV worldwide. This work has always been important but takes an urgency. #TheUrgencyOfNow #AIDSFreeGeneration

Despite progress, adolescent girls still bear the heaviest burden of the HIV epidemic. This #WorldAIDSDay, we emphasise the need to address this crisis. While infections among girls aged 10-19 have reduced, gender inequalities, poverty, and limited access to healthcare continue to fuel the HIV epidemic among girls. They're over three times more likely to be affected than boys in sub-Saharan Africa. #SouthAfrica, where 1 in 5 new global #HIV infections is among young women, plays a crucial role in this fight. Let's work together to empower girls, eliminate barriers, and ensure access to healthcare, education, and support. UNICEF latest global PR ▶ https://uni.cf/4a0Wo91 #EndAIDS #worldaidsday

Vice President Global Health, Abt Global | Systems Thinker | Health Equity Advocate | Inspiring Collaborative Achievements
Over the past few years, there has been a great deal of progress made in reducing HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths among children. Despite this progress, a new report released by the Global Alliance for Ending AIDS in Children by 2030 found that an urgent scale up of HIV services is necessary if we want to end AIDS by 2030. Globally, new HIV infections among children aged 0-14 years old have declined by 38% since 2015 and AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 43%. However, there were still around 120,000 children within this age range who became infected in 2023, along with 210,000 new infections among girls and young women aged 15-24. #HIVAIDS #GlobalHealth #endAIDS
Unfinished business: only the urgent and accelerated delivery of HIV services will keep the promise of ending AIDS in children by 2030
