Today, I had the privilege of attending an enlightening panel discussion on #WomenAndTheMedia, featuring the insightful contributions of Nevşin Mengü, Asya Varbanova, and Prof. Çilek Dürsün. The dialogue delved into crucial questions: Who is represented in the media? How are they depicted? Who holds the platform for discourse? And notably, how, if at all, has this dynamic evolved over the past 25 years?   While the focus was mainly on Türkiye, I firmly believe these inquiries resonate globally. The presentation of empirical data from various studies was particularly compelling, revealing a rise in female presence across diverse media platforms. However, a sobering truth emerged: despite this increase, the numbers dwindle when considering leadership positions. As long as men (and regrettably, some women too) who continue to reproduce patriarchal forms of power, dictate the narrative and shape portrayals of women in media, we're bound to witness a perpetuation of traditional roles, relegating women to soft subjects or the confines of the entertainment sector.   I extend my gratitude to Nevşin Mengü, Asya Varbanova, and Prof. Çilek Dürsün for their thought-provoking insights during this conversation.
