Check your calendars, this is going to be a good one! Register now for our next FREE Alliance Monthly Webinar coming up one week from today, Thursday, September 14 from 9-10a! Topic: Giving Big, Unrestricted Gifts for Nonprofits MacKenzie Scott’s giving has shaken up the philanthropic landscape. Her gifts are, at the median, 80 times the size of the typical grant of staffed foundations. They are totally unrestricted, often totally unexpected, and reveal a clear focus on equity and justice. Many observers have noted that Scott’s approach is the most interesting natural experiment in philanthropic practice in recent memory — raising many questions: What is the experience of organizations that receive these gifts? How do they use the resources? Are there unintended consequences? Are other donors, individuals or foundations, emulating Scott’s approach? During this webinar, our presenter Elisha Smith Arrillage, PhD will explore these and other questions based on findings from the second year of CEP’s three-year research effort to examine the effects of Scott’s giving. Elisha will also offer an exclusive preview of findings that will be released in late 2023 as well as engage in a lively debate about the implications of Scott’s approach. #alliancewebinar #nonprofit #nonprofitsector #nonprofitorganization #philanthropy #philanthropymatters #nonprofitgiving #philanthropicefforts #alliancems #nonprofitdonors #nonprofitsupport #freewebinar

Funders, how do you feel about MacKenzie Scott's unrestricted giving ~ praise or critique? MacKenzie Scott’s giving has diverged from more common approaches in philanthropy, earning both praise and critique. With new data in year two of a three-year study, CEP further analyzes the effects and emerging impacts of these gifts. The report examines: to what extent Scott’s giving has influenced other funders’ approaches; whether nonprofits believe the grant increased their impact, and in what ways; how they have allocated the money; and whether they have experienced any unintended negative consequences. In a FREE webinar Thursday, November 30, from 2:00-3:15pm ET/1:00-2:15CST, CEP’s research team will present the new data followed by a conversation with nonprofit and philanthropic leaders. I'm putting together a resource list for participants in Philanthropy Camp for Women for the purposes of researching nonprofit organizations, the nonprofit sector, and specific issue areas. I've got the big three research databases, plus Chronicle of Philanthropy, National Council of Nonprofits, Nonprofit Quarterly, Stanford Social Innovation Review so far. What would you add to this list? I know I'll never get everything, but wondering if there are some other big resources I'm missing. Thanks! #nonprofit #philanthropy #giving #resources

Did you know that less than 2% of philanthropic contributions (in the US) are directed towards #girlsandwomen organisations? At $ 8.8 billion, the pandemic saw a 9.2% increase in philanthropic giving to girls and women organisations, yet this figure is so low. #Reproductivehealth and #familyplanning organisations received the greatest amount of philanthropic support and some subsectors such as women’s and girls’ arts and culture, and women’s and #girlseducation received an unexpected boost in charitable giving from 2019 to 2020. This growth may be explained in part by the influence of a few large donations on relatively small areas of #philanthropy. How can we direct more funders as well as quantum of funding towards girls and women? https://lnkd.in/dsMDEAFG

Have you read our latest giving research, Growing Generosity? It breaks Floridians under the age of 45 into three distinct giving groups, defines each group's characteristics, and gives suggestions on how best to reach each kind of Floridian. And spoiler alert – the groups are not based on traditional demographic lines! Check out the full report for more information that will help you shape your end-of-year giving campaigns. Thank you to Jessie Ball duPont Fund for sponsoring this research and to GivingTuesday for conducting the survey and analyzing the data.
