"Part-time jobs offer valuable opportunities for teenagers to gain real-world experience, develop essential skills, and earn extra income. Whether it's working in retail, food service, tutoring, or babysitting, these roles teach responsibility, time management, and customer service skills. Beyond financial benefits, part-time jobs also provide teenagers with the chance to explore different career paths and discover their interests. Moreover, balancing schoolwork and a part-time job instills discipline and fosters a strong work ethic early on, setting a solid foundation for future success. Ultimately, part-time jobs empower teenagers to become more independent, confident, and prepared for the challenges of adulthood."

PARENTS: 4 TIPS TO HELP YOUR TEEN KEEP THEIR SUMMER JOB! Besides a weekly paycheck, summer employment enhances your resume, builds on skills and provides letters of recommendation from your employer. All go a long way when applying for future employment. 1. Be Punctual or unexcused absences Nothing is more important for keeping a business running properly. If one employee is late or absence, it has repercussions on everyone. Make it a habit come 10 minutes early and call ahead if you will be absence. Don’t make the mistake of calling in sick to spend the day at the beach. It’s amazing how often a fellow employee or the boss will see you there. 2. Show Initiative When work slows, show initiative. For example, tables may need to be cleaned, or shelves need to be stocked. 3. Be a Team Player You are part of a team, and team members support each other. Doing your job and helping another employee if asked, is what members of a team do. If a fellow employee is ill or has an important family affair, offering to switch shifts, or doing a double to help them out shows how much of a team player you are. 4. Unethical behavior. Stealing, lying, fraud, bullying, and sexual harassment all fall into this category. Basically, don’t be a jerk. Parents, if your teens avoid these big-time no-no’s, their summer job will be a whole lot more secure. SIMPLE BUT NEVER EASY. Some fantastic advice from Bethany Pearson and Dr Claire Vowell about how people on parental leave can perpare themselves for their return to work and make their return to work a success. 🙇♀️ Stop apologising for being a parent! Owning your parental responsibilities and talk about them openly at work is the best way to normalise it. ❤️ Self-care is key. Be kind to yourself, be conscious about what your own needs are, and don't be too self-critical. 🚼 Recognise that your world as a parent is different. You can have a career and be the parent want to be, but you need to accept that there will have to be compromises. 🚫 Set and manage boundaries, by thinking about what kind of parent, and what kind of worker, you want to be. 🔀 Acknowledge the transferrable skills you've acquired as a parent. You won't find many people who have raised a child without developing resilience and patience!

"Missed our live event? Don't fret! Catch the replay at the link below. Here are some of they key take outs....... ✅ Prioritise self care - eat well, exercise, sleep when you can and talking kindly to yourself ✅ Accept you will have to make compromises - you can have your career and be a parent but you can't be in two places at once - preparation is key ✅ Prepare in advance to return back to work - use your KIT to helps you with this ✅ Don't apologise - when having to leave work to pick your child/children up, it makes you feel bad, it feeds into a narrative of not being ok to be a working parent when you should be showcasing yourself in the workplace as a working parent ✅ Encourage dads to take paternity leave- Daddy Pig is NOT a good role model https://lnkd.in/ecfr_x3T

This was SUCH a useful conversation from the brilliant PR Mums about how to prepare yourself for going back to work after parental leave. Going back to work after a baby, whether you're on no.1, 2 or 7 😵, is one of life's trickiest transitions. If your baby isn't keeping you awake at night (lucky you...), there's a high chance your mind is racing with questions about how work life will look now that you've got a new family member in the mix. ❓ Will I be able to do my job as well as before? 🤒 What will I do if nursery bugs strike during a pitch week? ✨ How can I get my confidence back? 😴 Will I ever sleep again?! You can make that shift go as smoothly as possible by having a proper think about how you want things to be: 🤔 How do you want your work life to look? 🤔 How might that be different / similar to before you left? 🤔 What are your boundaries and non-negotiables? Are you planning your return to work and feeling anxious about how it's going to go? Coaching can help you get back in the driving seat and equip you with the tools to make that shift as smooth as possible. Get in touch for more information. https://lnkd.in/ecfr_x3T

Parental Guidance or Career guidance plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our children. As parents, it is our responsibility to guide and support them in making informed decisions about their career paths. Career guidance equips children with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to navigate the complex world of work. It helps them discover their passions, explore different career options, and develop a clear vision for their future. By providing career guidance, parents can empower their children to make well-informed choices that align with their interests, strengths, and aspirations. #parentalguidance #careerguidance

Doctors to Be The BBC annually conducts a Careers Survey on around 4,000 teenagers across the British Isles between the ages of 13 - 16. The article is attached below and here are some of the intriguing results: One might hazard a guess that a preferred career would be one attached to tech, specifically with some of the large, well-known companies like Apple or Google. Close, but not close enough.... The results came in and the majority, at 33%, wish to further their studies in medicine, becoming doctors and the employer of choice is the NHS. Further interest from the study was what thing teenagers believed was the most important to have in a job: 27% Happiness 25% To Feel Good About What you do 20% Money 17% To Feel Like You Are Helping People 5% To Have Little or No Stress 4% Leisure Time 1% Don't know What do you think the is most important?
