The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." The loss of Tim Wakefield over the weekend really hit hard. ⚾ 😢 How do you go from not feeling well a few weeks ago, seeing a doctor, being diagnosed with brain cancer, going in for emergency surgery, and then dying? At the age of 57, with 2 kids in college, and your wife is also battling cancer?!?! Life doesn't seem fair some days. Especially to such a wonderful person, such a giving person, such a good guy as Tim Wakefield. If you didn't know Tim Wakefield - he was a Red Sox legend, master knuckleballer (a pitch no one currently uses in MLB), and a massive advocate for The Jimmy Fund. He was also the 2003 Billy Buckner (threw the game-winning HR to Aaron f*ing Boone) - but defied the odds with the team just a year later and won the first World Series in 86 years for the Red Sox and was a part of the team to do it again in 2007. Life is short and changes in mere moments. Please take a minute to reflect when reading this and ask yourself, how can I be a bit more like Tim Wakefield? Whether it's mastering your craft like the knuckleball (for me, shout out #productmarketing) .... or giving back to the communities you love through time or money. FEEDBACK! It's a challenge - at least for me - that when I give a virtual talk, I don't always get much feedback about how it "landed." My CTA is to ask for an application of the learning with 1 of 2 actions (primarily on LinkedIn) in the next 24 hours. And I did that last evening when I finished the talk for the Public Health Career Club at PH SPOT on "Not Networking - Engaging Instead." You can imagine my surprise - and ELATION - when I finished a quick bite of a late supper less than 2 hours later to find a message from Linda Setiawan with this wonderful feedback: "I appreciate your advice to approach networking with a mindset of "engaging" in a way that adds to the conversation." AND - she had already written a post!! And she is now working on her banner and her "About" section to increase her visibility. #PomPomsToYou, Linda, for moving forward with the actions so quickly - and for moving your intentions into RESULTS!

I recently attended my very first FIA Conference, and I’m thrilled to share my experience with you all! 🎉 As someone who has primarily been involved in the corporate sector, stepping into the world of NFP has been so refreshing. The FIA Conference was an eye-opening journey that left me inspired and motivated. Here is what I discovered: Collaboration and Networking: The conference was a hub of collaboration. Non-profit professionals came together to share ideas, experiences, and best practices. Impactful Sessions: The conference featured a diverse range of sessions. From fundraising strategies to event ideas, each talk provided practical takeaways. I learned about innovative approaches to address social challenges and enhance the impact of NFP organisations. Purpose-Driven: The heart of the conference was the shared commitment to a purpose and everyone was aligned. Where passion meets purpose to create a positive change. Real Stories: Hearing personal stories from beneficiaries was incredibly moving. These narratives reminded us why we do what we do. Challenges and Solutions: The conference didn’t shy away from discussing challenges. We explored emerging issues and global trends. However, alongside the challenges, we also delved into creative solutions and adaptive strategies. In collaboration with CurePSP and The Rainwater Charitable Foundation, we’re thrilled to announce the winners of the 2023 Tauopathy Challenge Workshop! These remarkable researchers have been awarded a total of $2 million to propel their groundbreaking studies in neurodegenerative diseases. This workshop brought together experts from various fields to tackle the challenges in understanding and treating primary tauopathies, especially Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Frontotemporal Dementias (FTDs). Meet the winners: 1. Dr. Kathryn Bowles - Understanding the Role of Astrocytic Tau Accumulation on Glial and Neuronal Health in PSP 2. Dr. Yongku Cho & Dr. Jesse Rinehart - Decoding Tau Post- Translational Modifications in PSP and FTD’s 3. Dr. Rik van der Kant - Understanding and Targeting Lipid Dyshomeostasis in Tauopathies 4. I wish I were one of the 12 women granted $20 million by Melinda French Gates. I would have distributed it among C/Can cities' local CSOs to strengthen their organizational capacity, enabling them to expand their impactful work without  fundraising and reporting hassles. (#MelindacallIsabel) Until Melinda gets to know us and learns that the C/Can model works, I will continue working closely with all our partners. 😍 Because cancer care requires a cross-sector commitment to drive real and meaningful change, partnerships between the non-profit and for-profit sectors are essential. For 6 years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Roche. Our journey has been incredibly rewarding, filled with challenges and breakthroughs. After a comprehensive partnership review of our collective impact, we decided to document our journey and develop a collaboration framework between City Cancer Challenge and Roche. We both agree this framework could help many organizations navigate cross-sector collaborations. It may not be a one-size-fits-all, but I believe it will benefit many CSOs and corporates.
