We're fans of the "realistic job preview" (RJP) approach: RJPs give candidates "a genuine sense of the negatives and positives of the job, as well as a clear idea of the company’s corporate culture" by laying out in text or video what a typical day in the role would look like. Unsurprisingly, RJPs lead to lower turnover and higher employee satisfaction, most likely due to employees' sense that the company is honest and transparent. The recent Recruiting Madness polls were a great live check-in with the industry on several fronts. The most striking insight was the importance of Cultural Alignment in the legal sector: this dominated with a 93% preference rate compared to only 7% for Technical Alignment. Another interesting insight emerged when Salary and Performance Bonuses were compared to different factors. For example, Firm Culture (64%) won out over Salary (36%), and Performance Bonuses (75%) won out over Upskilling & Professional Development (25%). We use these live check-ins to help shape our search strategies to meet our clients' dynamic needs.

Dialogue: The Employer Responds questionnaire was published in September 2023, as a response to our two previous surveys ("Juniors' expectations at work" (August 2022) and "Why did you quit?"
