Pending accreditation, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine will be a four-year MD program that will enhance traditional medical education with the arts and humanities. The School will eventually share a campus with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the two organizations are exploring the intersection of art and well-being. Guided by Crystal Bridges educators, AWSOM faculty recently explored the galleries and participated in Visual Thinking Strategies exercises to learn how art can be used to teach critical skills such as observation, communication, and empathy. The School looks forward to partnering with the museum on more programs and opportunities to enhance medical education with the arts. #AWSOM #CrystalBridges #MedicalEducation #ArtsLearning
We did this at UAB with our nursing program- especially one of our professors, Dr. Elizabeth Crooks. It really enhanced our learning and understanding. Glad to see other places embracing it.

1mothe evidence is growing for the role of VTS in health professions education to cultivate wonder as well as many other clinically relevant attributes. Important to train HP faculty in how to facilitate these discussions with fidelity. These facilitative skills can also be used in clinical settings https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35044978/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37962172/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33264111/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38461382/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38461393/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37074677/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36811924/
