Today, we honor The Longest Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. This special event, organized by the Alzheimer’s Association, has a rich history rooted in community and resilience. The Origins The Longest Day was inspired by the summer solstice, the day with the most light. Just as the sun shines longest on this day, we shine a light on the challenges faced by those affected by Alzheimer's disease. The initiative began in 2012, encouraging people to engage in activities they love from sunrise to sunset, symbolizing the endurance and strength needed to fight Alzheimer’s. Evolution Over the Years In its early years, The Longest Day primarily focused on a variety of individual and group activities, from walking and cycling to hosting bake sales and craft fairs. As awareness grew, so did the participation and creativity of the events. Today, The Longest Day has expanded to include virtual events, making it accessible to even more people around the world. From online gaming marathons to virtual dance parties, the ways to participate have evolved, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of the community. Why It Matters Every activity, every hour spent, and every dollar raised brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer's. World MS Day, a day of global solidarity, collective action and hope. The international awareness day aims to bring the global Multiple Sclerosis community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign for change. The theme for this year is 𝗠𝘆 𝗠𝗦 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀: 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗦 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. We want to be talking about accurate and early diagnosis, overcoming global barriers to diagnosing and better training for healthcare professionals. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common neurological diseases. Today, an estimated 2.9 million people around the world have MS. In a world where business often takes center stage, it's easy to forget the little things that make a big difference. One such thing? Teaching our children the value of care. As business leaders, we're no strangers to the concepts of investment, growth, and ROI. But when it comes to our families, these concepts take on a whole new meaning. Investing in our children's emotional intelligence by teaching them to care for others is perhaps the most invaluable investment we can make. It's not just about ensuring they become successful professionals, but compassionate human beings. Here's a personal story that might resonate with many of you: My youngest daughter has Crohn's disease and has had it since age 10 - She is now an amazing adult - who took ownership of her health and now works for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation - raising money and awareness to find a cure for this "Crappy" disease. I am so proud of her for stepping into helping others. Her courage and dedication to others is what I admire so much. When she was young, I made my best effort to teach her life's critical lessons, and now she is teaching me as well. To care, to value the simple moments, and to remember that behind every successful professional is a human heart yearning for connection and understanding. Also, many people are suffering behind their smiles and the smallest deed can make the biggest difference. My daughter's commitment to finding a cure for Crohn's disease has led me to prioritize 'care' in my daily life. Whether it's spending an extra five minutes on the phone with my daughter or a friend about our day, volunteering together at the local shelter, or simply listening to each other without distractions, these moments of care build a foundation of empathy and understanding that can transform societies. To my LinkedIn connections and business leaders, let's not forget the power of care. It shapes our children's futures, strengthens our families, and, ultimately, reflects in the way we lead and engage with the world around us. Because at the end of the day, the most significant legacy we can leave is not just a successful business, but a generation that cares deeply about the world and the people in it.
