For over 2,000 years, generations of female free divers in Ise Shima have held legendary status. Known as the ama, these remarkable women know the waters of Ago Bay better than anyone, plunging its depths for abalone and shellfish on a single breath, where once their mission was to find pearls. A centuries-old tradition built on ritual, skill and a synergy with the sea. https://lnkd.in/edxzBcjb #TheSpiritofAman

🇬🇱 Today on #Ullortuneq (National Day of Kalaallit Nunaat), IWGIA celebrates the resilience and fight for self-determination in #KalaallitNunaat. ✊ June 21 is the longest day of the year and a celebration in itself. It was also on this day in 2009 that Kalaallit Nunaat gained self-government. In March 2023, Greenland presented a Constitutional Draft on the path of independence. 📢 #Kalaallit in Denmark still suffer from multifaceted discrimination. 🚨 In 2023, the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples expressed concern over the widespread stigmatization faced by Kalaallit living in #Denmark. He gave a strong appeal to Denmark to secure access to Greenlandic cultural heritage, language and history. Currently there's also a focus on Kalaallit women's #humanrights and sexual repoductivity rights that were violated under the so-called “IUD campaign”. 👉 You can read all of this and more in The Indigenous World 2024: https://bit.ly/4dP68VX #WeAreIndigeous #UNSRIP

POEM: Role of women in Somaliland politic. _______________________________________________ The role of women in Somaliland politics is evolving, with ongoing efforts from various stakeholders to increase their participation and representation. Women in Somaliland face significant challenges in participating in politics, but they have made notable strides in recent years. Historically, societal norms and traditional structures have limited women’s roles in political life. Supporting SOMALILAND without fear or favor.

🟣 #8March2024 With International Women's Rights Day this week, FIDH - International Federation for Human Rights gives the floor to its Vice-Presidents. Fatia Maulidiyanti, member of Indonesian NGO Komisi untuk Orang Hilang dan Korban Tindak Kekerasan (KontraS) and FIDH Vice-President answered the question 👇 “What is the main obstacle you encounter in your work to promote recognition of women's rights?” As defenders of human rights throughout the world, FIDH Vice-Presidents are all confronted on a daily basis with society's reluctance to fully assert women's rights. FIDH unites and supports those who fight for a fair and just world. KontraS, FIDH member organisation in Indonesia, is a working group set up in 1998 by civil society organisations and community leaders. Its mission is to raise public awareness of the importance of respecting human rights and to fight against the various forms of violence and flagrant violations linked to the abuse of power by the State: abductions, enforced disappearances, etc. KontraS is particularly active on behalf of victims in Aceh, Papua and East Timor. #humanrights #Indonesia #FIDH #womenrights #women

Iam NEXT! Real woman summit at Mulungushi ICC, Lusaka. These speakers energized, empowered and elevated us. Key takeaways: 1. When your name is mentioned, what next? 2. Only dead fish go with the flow. 3. Turn trash into treasure. 4. Where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable. Myles Monroe. Neha ., Gender Manager, Solidaridad Asia, visited the East Kutai district in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, in May 2024. During her visit, she met with smallholder farmers and cooperative members participating in our programmes. Neha also had the opportunity to meet Im Fatul Hasanah, the candidate for Gender Champion in the Gender Parade event organized by the provincial government of East Kalimantan. The cooperative Im Fatul is leading will join Solidaridad's activities shortly, as part of the feminization of the supply chain approach. 🌴 💧 Feminization of supply chain is a concept that offers different methodologies to answer the unique needs of women in agriculture. The goal is to ensure inclusivity of women at all levels of agricultural supply chains, acknowledge their meaningful contributions, and promote change that matters for women. It is a disruptive model that aims to empower women economically, socially, and psychologically. 👩🌾 🤝 #Feminization #SupplyChain #WomenInAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers #WomenEmpowerment Solidaridad Indonesia

Great project related Discussions and reflections on the partnership between Oxfam and WARA today. The West Are'Are Rokotanikeni Association (WARA) is an inspiring group of women leading the way in revitalizing traditional governance structures in the West Are'Are Constituency in Malaita Province. Their collaboration with the Council of Chiefs and the House of Chiefs is reshaping the status quo by advocating for increased women's participation in decision-making processes and representation within the House of Chiefs. One of the most compelling aspects of WARA's work is their emphasis on shifting the narrative around land, from land ownership to Land Custodians. This perspective underscores the deep connection between people and their land, highlighting the importance of responsible custodianship. Dr. Alice Pollard and Janet Fangata passionately described how WARA's influence is expanding, and rural communities are increasingly acknowledging its impact. Their words underscored the transformative effect of collective action and advocacy in bringing about positive change.

Studies show that women live longer because they spend more time in community, sharing strong support networks. Studies also show that men in Villagrande Strisaili, Sardinia live as long as women because they spend time in community. If studies prove both of these are true, then why wouldn’t we, as married entrepreneurs, establish our own environments/networks to not only add years to our lives but also share business knowledge to help make each other better? Makes too much sense. Why plant individual trees when we can harvest forests? #copreneurs #copreneurship #marriagepreneurs #whenlovemeetsbusiness #loveandcapitalgains #ido #winningtogether #marriedinbusiness #couplesinbusinesstogether

Isirika: Mutual responsibility for caring for one another. Lately, I've been trying to create, develop, and lead through a more compassionate lens. However, I'm realizing that working with compassion extends far beyond a project or a program. It needs to extend into oneself. Today I learned about a powerful practice called Isirika. A way of living that, in my opinion, can change the world. Pass it on! #isirika

🕯️ 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 🕯️ Today, the students and faculty of 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞, 𝐆𝐚𝐲𝐚 came together to participate in a powerful candle march with a single mission: to stop the harassment of women. In a world where too many voices go unheard, we must amplify the call for justice and equality. This march is not just about walking in unity; it’s about igniting a flame of change. Harassment in any form, whether physical, emotional, or psychological, is a violation of human dignity and must be confronted head-on. Every time we remain silent, we allow this injustice to continue. But when we speak up, we send a clear message that we will not tolerate such behavior. 🌟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐬 🌟 Today’s event symbolized our commitment to standing up for what is right. We marched not just for ourselves, but for every woman who has faced harassment, for every voice that has been silenced, and for every future generation that deserves a safer world. As we held our candles high, we remembered those who have suffered in silence and vowed to be the voices that break the cycle. Let’s continue this momentum beyond today. Let’s educate, advocate, and stand in solidarity with all women. Together, we can build a society where respect, equality, and justice are the norms. We encourage everyone to join this cause, to speak up, and to act. Your voice has power. Let’s use it to make a lasting difference. #StopHarassment #EmpowerWomen #RaiseYourVoice #NoMoreSilence #ChaitanyaBusinessCollege #Gaya #EqualityForAll
