HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW SOLAR POWERED WATER PUMPS ARE DESIGNED? The steps below gives a breakdown to the design of a solar powered water pump system: 🛢️Determine the required pumping rate and head of the water pump system. This will depend on the application, such as for irrigation, livestock watering, or household use. 💻 Calculate the total daily water demand of the application. This will determine the pump run time and size of storage tanks. 🌝 Determine the best type of solar panel to use based on the pumping rate, head, and daily water demand (choose between a mono or poly PV Panel base on your region and application). 🚰 Select a suitable solar water pump that meets the pumping rate and head requirements. Consider the pump type, such as submersible or surface, and the pump controller's functionality (this is very important). 🛒 Choose an inverter that can convert DC power to AC power to operate the pump and power the other electrical equipment such as monitoring and control (I will advice to choose Hybrid Inverters with built in MPPT). 🔋 Select a battery storage solution to provide power when the sun is unavailable or insufficient (This may not be needed in most applications for water pumps only). 🎯 Design an appropriate mounting system to install the solar panels at the correct angle and orientation based on the region and solar radiation (Sunlight direction). 🛠️ Install the solar panels, batteries, and other components according to manufacturer instructions and your desired application. 🍜 Test the system to ensure proper operation and performance. 📊 Monitor the system regularly to ensure adequate power generation and pump operation. Note: In most applications, battery storage unit is not needed.

M Zakir Hossain Khan, a climate and renewable energy finance expert, told TBS, "Due to growing water scarcity, the irrigation cost has been increasing abruptly. In this context, to make irrigation cheaper as well as reduce dependency transition of 13 lakh diesel-based irrigation pumps to solar ones should be prioritised. But, a just and subsidised transition should be ensured through meaningful strategy, which has yet to be formulated." Is it feasible to establish one or two megawatt solar plants near rivers that cause floods in order to divert their water through piped canals, possibly interconnecting certain northern and southern rivers? Rather than excavating the land to interconnect appropriate rivers, could we pump water using large solar-powered pumps and sizable pipes, similar to how oil is transported? By doing so, we could utilize floodwater and excess river water, then pump it for irrigation purposes via piped canals. This would reduce the reliance on diesel for irrigation, subsequently decreasing the over-extraction of groundwater by tube wells. By employing piped canals powered by substantial solar pumps, we could revolutionize the irrigation map of India and halt the depletion of underground water. This approach is more sustainable and can be efficiently implemented using large pipes, either overhead or underground, to minimize land and labor costs. Overhead installations would conserve agricultural land in the transit areas and facilitate water distribution at multiple locations without the need for additional pumps. It could also result in reduced compensation during land acquisition. Instead of standalone solar pumps that extract underground water, we might develop piped water grids sourced from rivers etc .

#EU, UNDP launch #solar-powered drip irrigation system for local households in #Uzbekistan The new drip irrigation system has been introduced in #Akkurgan District, Tashkent Region — an area known for its challenging #watersupply conditions. The system includes a water pump that extracts water from a vertical well at a depth of 180 meters, with the support of #solarpanels.
