Hospitality has played a great game over recent weeks, and it seems to be winning. But as we know after experiences in recent years, anything can happen in this game. So, is the hospitality sector winning or losing and will it see a bigger difference through the knockout stages of the Euros?
With the added blessing of a mini heatwave in the UK and the Euros being held in Germany (hello to all our German colleagues) it means games are being shown at good times for us fans and hospitality providers in the UK.
The Men’s UEFA Euro 2024 Spending Report by VoucherCodes.co.uk (see the link in the comments) also reveals that 14.4m Brits will watch at least one match at a pub, bar, or restaurant during the competition – a 115% increase from the last men’s major international tournament.
UK hospitality venues are predicted to make £217.3m from food sales and £396.5m from drinks sales. That’s 110.3m pints of beer and cider, 36.1m glasses of wine, and 10.9m Aperol Spritz, roughly. That’s an extra 20M pints and an extra £94M in revenue. Giving a much-needed boost to the Hospitality sector over the period of the Euros.
All of this is a bit like bringing on Ronaldo, Mbappe, and Bellingham off the bench, all at the same time with 20 mins to go and needing a winning goal.
UKHospitality has said that the Euros group stage could give a boost of £340m in increased sales, and up to £800m if England reach the final! (And yes, we know, it doesn’t happen often but in the name of Hospitality we’re keeping our fingers crossed).
So, whether England do eventually bring it home or it’s another nation lifting the trophy, let’s hope hospitality wins, with bars and restaurants across Europe buzzing with fans eating, drinking and enjoying the beautiful game.
One thing is for sure, it seems that venues in the hospitality sector need to make sure they’re staffed up, their glass and dishwashers are in good form and make the most of the coming weeks. The hospitality sector deserves it.
Whoever you’re supporting in the knockout stages… we’re supporting you.
