Wildfires pose a growing threat to thousands of communities across the United States. AmeriCorps members supporting disaster recovery help combat wildfires wherever they might spring up. Through national service, these members gain certifications and forestry skills, and work with organizations like NFPA, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and USDA Forest Service to reduce fuel load, and make wildfire response easier. Wondeful write up. My nephew is serving with AmeriCorps St. Louis, has faught several wildfires, and helped make a difference through emergency response and conservation work. In our family, he is the second generation to serve in AmeriCorps and fourth to serve his country.
