Feeling very inspired after Tuesday night's Salon Canberra event ‘Enhancing Communities through Infrastructure, Placemaking and Public Art’. The beautiful theatrette at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia was completely full. Thank you to Catherine Carter for providing this opportunity. There were many takeaways from the panel that stuck with me, but my favourite was from Nikos Kalogeropoulos: We are creating fewer reasons to step into the public realm. We create bigger, more elaborate homes, with home gyms, home theatres etc. We drive from these ultra-comfortable homes straight to our sterile, climate-controlled offices and then home again. And yet, so often are the memorable moments made elsewhere, in the public realm. In the spaces between destinations. This was a thought-provoking moment for me, that something seemingly trivial can have a huge impact on the community and its engagement. We need to include art and the public realm in our daily lives. How much beauty and culture do we miss? How many moments of connection do we simply, subconsciously, refuse to experience?

New Orleans is a city where culture runs deep and the energy of the crowd is as vibrant as its rich history. 🎺✨ Our own Rich Vallaster III, CEM, DES brought back not just beignets and blues but invaluable insights from the @NSBA Conference for Public Education Leaders. Here are three takeaways for event professionals looking to make the most out of their host cities: 1️⃣ Destination Matters: Choose a city that beckons not just you, but also your attendees AND their families. A destination worth the travel. 2️⃣ Merge Event with Experience: Blur the lines between event spaces and city streets. Plan activities that splash the local colors into your event palette. 3️⃣ Leave a Positive Footprint: Whether through service or advocacy, ensure your event leaves a lasting positive legacy in the city. For 50 years, we have been a vital space for Calgary, where people can gather from the world over, to create and build meaningful connections. Our President and CEO, Kurby Court, MA., CCP, explores what that means, and how even after 50 years, we’re still learning ways to do that better, in this article from the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

We’ve spent a lot of time in the last couple of months on our indexing and analysis systems so the amount of human effort needed to get sufficient market coverage was massively reduced compared to Bath. It’s a really interesting challenge trying to balance detail with accuracy and repeatability, pipelining the analysis to use cheaper models where possible, and even (gasp!) using good old hardcoded heuristics for places where we don’t need AI.
🎉 Today we launch our in our second Jitty citty, Bristol ⚓🍎🐻 Bristol is a beautiful place, full of beautiful homes. Try it out, tag any friends who live in Bristol, and as always let us know any feedback. We launched our second city roughly 4x quicker than our first, which we're proud of given that it's about 5x bigger. We’re ramping up the speed, so we're looking forward to announcing more cities soon. ✌️🏡 Photo credit to Martyna Bober on Unsplash 📸
