Building on the success of a number of other Australian installations, DOLRE Low-Stress Bridge Traffic Barriers have delivered the ideal bridge barrier safety solution along a major arterial road in Sydney’s inner-west. Installed along the Fifth Avenue bridge over the Cooks River in Campsie - which had previously been the site of a serious incident in which a vehicle with three occupants had crashed through the old bridge fence, plunging several metres into river below - the DOLRE bridge traffic barriers are providing a significant boost in safety for road users and pedestrians alike. Ever wondered what a road looks like under the surface? Take this diagram from the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade, where we've excavated the road down to ‘formation level’ at the intersection of Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard. If our crew digs down to the subgrade level and the material is stable, then we build up the pavement from there. But sometimes we find that ground conditions are a little softer than anticipated, and we need to do some extra earthworks to bring it up to standard. After that, we’ll: - Install new traffic lights - Reinstate the bus stop - Install new kerbs - Lay new asphalt - Complete line marking All these activities are part of a detailed methodology for upgrading intersections. Bassetts Road will reopen in late-March, and Vantage Point Boulevard not far behind. #Roads #Construction #Asphalting #RoadSafety #Earthworks City of Whittlesea, Laing O'Rourke

Safety is a primary consideration for the Blatnik Bridge replacement project. According to MnDOT, lessening the risk of a vessel hitting the structure—like what happened in Baltimore with catastrophic results—"will be a core component of Blatnik design work." https://ow.ly/5Zch50R5rgn
Transportation officials will take vessel collisions into consideration in designing new Blatnik Bridge

What are the Primary Reasons behind Railway Accidents? Infrastructure Defects: The railway infrastructure, which includes tracks, bridges, overhead wires, and rolling stock, is often defective due to poor maintenance, ageing, vandalism, sabotage, or natural disasters. Much of the infrastructure was built in the 19th and 20th centuries and has not been upgraded to meet the growing demand and modern standards. The railway system also suffers from a lack of funds, corruption, and inefficiency, which hamper its development and maintenance. Moreover, many routes are operating at over 100% capacity, which increases the risk of accidents due to congestion and overloading. Human Errors: The railway staff, who are responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing the trains and tracks, are prone to human errors due to fatigue, negligence, corruption, or disregard for safety rules and procedures. Human errors can result in wrong signalling, miscommunication, over speeding, or overlooking defects or hazards. The railway staff also lack adequate training and communication skills, which affect their performance and coordination. Signalling Failures: The signalling system, which controls the movement and direction of trains on the tracks, can fail due to technical glitches, power outages, or human errors. Signalling failures can lead to trains running on the wrong track, colliding with other trains or stationary objects, or overshooting stations. For example, the recent train accident in Odisha was reportedly caused by a change in electronic interlocking that was not communicated properly to the drivers. Unmanned level crossings (UMLCs): UMLCs are places where railway tracks crossroads without any barriers or signals to regulate traffic.
These problems highlight major #maintenance issues with the #railway track, impacting the stability of the gravel foundation (ballast layer) and the overall strength of the rails. It's #crucial to conduct repairs and regular maintenance to ensure that railway operations remain safe and efficient. Credit to Der Eisenbahner DE Eng. Bone VS Steel: A Road Safety Awareness Project This campaign, 'Bone VS Steel,' launched in Canada in October 2018 for SAAQ, ingeniously raises awareness about street crossing safety. WHY IT MATTERS: Over 2.35 million people die in road crashes each year, with pedestrians accounting for 22% of global road traffic fatalities. Street crossing safety is a vital concern, and this campaign creatively grabs attention to drive home the importance of being cautious. ACTION POINTS: 1. Spread of awareness in the local community. 2. Follow street safety rules and encourage others to do the same. 3. Stay informed about pedestrian safety measures. THE BOTTOM LINE: Safety is the top most priority for everyone. 'Bone VS Steel' reminds us to prioritize safety, turning a critical message into an engaging campaign. THE QUESTION: What creative approaches have you seen or used to promote safety awareness? Share your experience! Following #arience Arience
