After attending the Urban Innovation Forum in Berlin Kreuzberg, I'm pondering the role of individual action versus the necessity of societal rules to tackle the climate crisis. Is it the sum of our individual efforts or do we need clear societal guidelines? It was inspiring to discover new startups like Enerkite, harnessing kites to generate electricity for businesses independently of grids. Equally impressive was Soylgel, aiding wheat plants in storing rainwater longer in the soil, ensuring plants have water for extended periods. Mesopartner starts today its Economic Sustainability Development-Study Tour in Denmark. It will start with a City Tour on sustainable strategies of the city and its role in innovation promotion for businesses and civil society actors. We will visit the City Agency Copenhagen Capacity to promote Green Tech support structures before finally visiting BLOXHUB as a startup centre of green tech companies. We will raise questions, among others: How has Copenhagen managed to become a model of green transition? What is the role of the city management and of other stakeholders in that respect? Dreaming sustainable future! #WeMakeTransition project recruited altogether 30 change agents from six countries representing different actors from public sector to NGOs, research and entrepreneurs. Their task is to do some dreaming and co-create sustainability vision for 2035 where civil society actors have a strong role. They will also make recommendations for cities and municipalities. Here some highlights: 💥 Sustainable future is made of strong local communities with exchange of materials, goods, ideas, skills and support. 💥 The whole educational system and lifelong learning path would highlight manual skills (e.g. repairing, crafting, farming) and community building (e.g. sharing) much more. 💥 Civil society actors are given practical means to foster and enable sustainable lifestyle making it easy and natural choice for people.
