Career changes can often take us by surprise, leading us down paths we never anticipated. For instance, one of my first big creative jobs was at DEP (which later got bought by Henkel/Schwarzkopf) and at the time I always imagined my future would revolve around the skin and hair care beauty industries, dedicating my creative expertise to enhancing physical appearance. However, life has a way of presenting unexpected twists and turns. Through various experiences, challenges, and opportunities, I found myself gravitating towards the self-care nutrition segment, where I discovered a passion for wellness that transcended aesthetics. This journey brought me to Pharmavite, and has taught me that embracing change can lead to fulfilling and enriching experiences that align more closely with our evolving passions and values. Speed of response and a memorable quote. Good work Nikki Alvey, that's how it's done. The route to national coverage for your client sounds almost simple. But it's impossible to follow unless you make an effort to understand how national newsrooms function, and what a real story is. My experience is that 99% of pitches fall at this hurdle. But PRs who think hard about the national news perspective see results. And clients who've been correctly media trained know how to deliver that memorable line inside a very tight time frame. Achieving coverage in a national still gives me a thrill every time it happens (even in my 20 plus years of working in PR). And personally, I think if it doesn't, you really shouldn't be in the job. That's why it's lovely to work with a client that really gets what's needed to achieve that kind of result - no small feat. This week, that client is Emma Fishwick at Circana who was quoted in The Guardian yesterday on a Korean beauty trend that's taking off in the UK! 💡 Here’s how we made it happen: ⏱️ Emma responded super fast to the opportunity. Journalists work on tight deadlines and when an opportunity arises, timing is everything. 💬 She gave a standout comment. It’s crucial to say something interesting, bold, and relevant that grabs attention. 📈 We had current market data to share AND insight. Supporting points with compelling data adds weight to your opinion. 🧠 The quote was memorable. This time Emma's phrase about the trend for 'glass skin' even made the headline as well as in the article. 🔴 BOOMERANGS IN BUSINESS: WHY OPEN THE DOOR TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY LEFT? 🔄💼 There is still a business practice: do not hire those who have left. Since the person has chosen a different path, it means no way to return to where they were. Let's face it: the world of work is changing, and a career these days is not always about stability in one company. 🌍💼 Employees leave for new experiences, knowledge, or a different perspective on professional challenges. An opportunity for them to return is a chance for a company to gain unique experience, valuable skills, and overall company loyalty which is difficult to build with a new candidate. 🔑💪 Of course, boomerang hiring has its pitfalls. ⚠️ Consider the reasons for their departure while also keeping in mind the needs of the business.
