Helping fundraisers help donors experience the joy of philanthropy | Director, Gift Planning Services, University System of MD | Owner, Akorn Consulting Group, LLC | Diversity makes us stronger | Opinions my own
We interrupt our normally planned post about planned giving to give you some news you may not like: You're doing fundraising all wrong. Stop. Right. Now. And watch this conversation between Joseph Tumolo, CAP® and Lisa Z G. Then watch it again, and go back and find Part I. It's that important. Who are we as nonprofit organizations to assume that any donor who gives once will become a DFL*? Why play games with donors, pretending you don't already know a lot about them because you or your research team has stalked them online? Why do we not share our own passion for the mission we represent? (And, if you don't have passion for that mission, why are you working for it? Side note: I've always made sure I have a personal investment in the causes I've represented. Otherwise, I'm no better than a salesperson trying to get you to buy something I wouldn't own myself.) Yes, yes, we have two ears and one mouth. But use your mouth! Be thoughtful and curious. Ask the donor or prospect questions that show your respect for them as people first. And sources of support second. Thank you, Joe and Lisa, for this authentic discussion. *Donor For Life

The5 with Eric Moraczewski welcomes Kyle Ogden, President & CEO of The Thanks-Giving Foundation. Kyle joins The5 to talk about Building a Profoundly #Caring Community. Something most, if not all, nonprofits are focused on but maybe aren't always aware of. Kyle talks about being intentional with gratitude and caring, as well as the Foundation's five key functions of Building a Profoundly Caring Community. Kyle became the President and CEO of The Thanks-Giving Foundation because he wanted to do something important in the bigger civic context, and build something sustainable for the citizens of Dallas. The Thanks-Giving Foundation is a platform that can influence the future of the community, and he believes his contribution of time, effort and resources can make a real difference as an accelerant of positive change. The physical and programmatic enhancements made are being noticed, and he is proud that the vision will deliver a place of importance within the nonprofit landscape. Before joining The Thanks-Giving Foundation, Kyle was the Chairman, President and CEO of Carroll Company. Kyle received a Bachelor of Business Administrations degree in honors business and a Master of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Austin, and went on to earn his CPA license. In his spare time, he enjoy golf, baseball and travel. He and his wife have four adult children. The5 is a celebration of the work being done by nonprofit professionals, highlighting valuable tips and methods that nonprofits should be utilizing. The5 is aptly named as NMBL Strategies celebrates our 5 year anniversary. Host Eric Moraczewski leads guests on a journey of topics that are of deep importance to the guest and discusses how nonprofits and nonprofit leaders can benefit from the experience and expertise. #nonprofit #nonprofits #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitfoundation #nonprofitlife #nonprofitorganizations #nonprofitmanagement #nonprofitsuccess #nonprofitleaders #nonprofitgrowth #gratitude #intentionality

LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK, I am trying to build a method of Giving for Donation ideas, and here is one I have come up with, where I am contacting companies that are Bee or Honey associated because our main character is a Bee. what are your thoughts? Hi, we are a nonprofit organization, in Fresno, for the prevention of abuse by educating through Play and Entertainment. We have cartoon/comic characters that are called the Bugillagers. Our main character is named RowJoeBee and his best friend is SemBelAnt. We are considering setting up a donation page based on naming the various characters that will be used in the comics and cartoons that we will be producing. Would you, as a BEE based company, consider donating to our cause, for the privilege of naming A Bee for our stories, A Queen for our stories, and/or a Hive for our stories? Or for a larger donation, create the personality for that character? Or even our other insectile characters. We are considering setting up a page on our site, that would automate such a Donate/Name feature, but we need to know if it would actually be viable as a method of getting involvement? Here is RowJoeBee https://lnkd.in/gaeQXTeW
