The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is reaffirming its support for Fatality Free Friday this year to enhance safety awareness on Australian roads. With 1,270 lives lost in road accidents in 2023, the Australian Road Safety Foundation stresses the importance of all road users taking extra care to reduce road trauma and drive community change. NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto emphasises that one road fatality is one too many, highlighting the collective responsibility to prioritise safety on the roads. Petroccitto advises all drivers, whether in trucks, buses, motorcycles, or cars, to prioritise safety by staying well-rested, attentive, and focused on the road, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. Notably, 70% of serious incidents involving heavy vehicles result from errors by light vehicle drivers, underscoring the need for motorists to exercise caution when around trucks. It is crucial to remain vigilant of blind spots and provide heavy vehicles with ample space. #NHVR #safety #roadsafety #unavin Read more: https://lnkd.in/g-KncxsN

Safe System Snippet – Same Vehicle, Different Safety Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) tests are undertaken on standard vehicles, without bullbars or other accessories fitted. As part of the ANCAP rating, a vehicle must provide protection to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users that may be struck by the vehicle. ANCAP’s testing protocols for pedestrian impacts are not designed to assess impacts with bullbars or other frontal protection devices. The fitting of a bullbar is likely to significantly degrade the safety outcome when the vehicle strikes a pedestrian, cyclist or motorcyclist. ------------- Sign up to our mailing list for more snippets and news: https://lnkd.in/gXsAeAa9 #roadsafety #trafficsafety #pedestriansafety #cyclistsafety #motorcyclistsafety #safesystem #SafeSystemSnippet

Australians have this fascination for fitting bull bars, it’s almost as though it’s not a real ute without one. Modern cars do not need bull bars - when developing the Ranger, Ford used an anthropomorphic model of a kangaroo to crash test the vehicle at 100kmph. It survived and remained driveable. Bull bars do not make you safer in a crash. I was responsible for commissioning independent Crash Lab tests which showed on a HiLux it actually resulted in worse outcomes. Bull bars: - will not give you the protection you think they will - may result in worse damage outcomes from tubulars shearing and penetrating the engine compartment - you will end up paying to repair/replace more items - may compromise the designed crush failure mode of the vehicle designed to protect occupants - may compromise finely tuned air bag safety systems - will result in worse outcomes for occupants in a vehicle you hit in a T-bone crash - will result in worse outcomes for pedestrians - and that stupid lump on your bumper adds weight which impacts your suspension and the extra weight costs you more in fuel to lug it around. Save yourself the money, the damage and a life.

If you drive your car every day, it can be difficult to tell if your suspension system is in bad shape. Many people will replace their vehicles’ suspension systems when they fail. This is not a wise idea. A reliable and safe suspension system is necessary for the vehicle’s and occupants’ safety. As a result, there are several warning signs to be aware of. Let us look at some of these warning indications and go over the benefits of upgrading your suspension.🚘 The signs include the following: 🚫 Sagging In The Rear The clearest indicator of a faulty 4×4 suspension is sagging in the back of the vehicle when loading and transporting heavy loads. This drooping results in increased wear on the vehicle’s mechanical components reduced road steadiness, and, as a result, reduced travel safety. 🚫 Unnerving Turns Another warning indication that you need to upgrade your suspension is when cornering. Ensure that you do not feel like the vehicle is drifting or being pushed. When the car’s suspension cannot protect the vehicle from the impacts of centrifugal force, this occurs. Centrifugal force takes effect when you try to manoeuvre the car into or out of turn in the turn direction. This is a significant issue and a risk to your safety. You should replace the suspension on your vehicle as soon as possible if you notice this.
