Our drive: to decarbonize the metal industry. 🌍 Our technologies can reduce direct CO2 emissions in the metals industry to zero by replacing natural gas. For this, we use targeted electrification that enables plant operation with green electricity and alternative fuels from renewable sources, such as green hydrogen. ⚡ This has a positive impact on steel production for the automotive industry: electrical steel for e-motors and components for battery and fuel cells in gigafactories. As we collectively look for larger power portfolios to serve residential, commercial, and industrial load across the globe, this technology is fascinating on several levels...70% to 90% efficiency, little/no harmful byproducts, and commercial availability lead the way. The internal skeptic on me wonders what the catch might be (including the glossing over of easily-produced hydrogen fuel, including maritime application using saline fuel), but I think it bears consideration for those of us in the power production, distribution, and usage fields.

🔋 With the Plug & Drive H2 Storage System, Voith is making a major contribution to the decarbonization of global heavy-duty transport. As an energy source, hydrogen is the alternative to fossil fuels and the future solution for long-distance heavy-duty transportation. The Voith Plug & Drive H2 Storage System is available in capacity levels for 56, 75 and 112 kg of hydrogen. This enables ranges of 700 to over 1,000 km, which would be unthinkable with a purely battery-electric drive, as a lithium-ion battery with the corresponding capacity would weigh almost 6 tons. A 55 kg tank of hydrogen is sufficient for around 700 km and refueling takes less than 10 minutes. 🔋💯 The low weight of the hydrogen tank allows for around 5 tons more payload on the truck compared to the battery-electric version.
