It's good to see promising attendance and ticket revenue figures in 2023 from Live Performance Australia. LPA's Evelyn Richardson said: ‘Despite cost of living pressures, Australians continued to strongly support live performance. It’s clear they value engagement with all categories of live performance, from ballet and dance, classical music and comedy through to musicals, theatre and festivals as well as tours by their favourite Australian and international acts.' However, she tempered that with words of warning about the future of our arts sector: ‘... behind the headline figures there continues to be real pressures on many of our performing arts organisations. It’s essential that governments at all levels recognise the cultural, social and economic importance of our live arts and entertainment industry and continue to invest in Australia’s creative capability and potential.' At Giving Culture, we also think the corporate sector can do a lot more too! As Evelyn puts it, the performance industry enriches 'Australia’s social and economic life': https://lnkd.in/gDa46JJD

#Event #Shuttles To shuttle or not to shuttle? That is the question. I had the "opportunity" to experience the shuttle service at the recently concluded ICC T20 games in Trinidad. I say opportunity because it was certainly a learning lesson for all and although I saw a marked improvement from the first game to the semis, there were still hiccups that had to be ironed out. Fast track to two weeks ago, when I had another opportunity to experience shuttles in action at the recently held Tipsy Music Festival in Barbados. Shuttles were part of the master plan to manage the traffic congestion and limit the parking around the venue for both days and at both venues. On one occasion it was successful and on another occasion, it failed miserably. So, what really is the answer to shuttling? Well first let me present a mathematics interpretation to solve this problem. You must first understand the following: - what is the capacity of the shuttle vehicle chosen? - how long will it take for the shuttle to move from point A to point B? - can the chosen vehicle easily turn for a return trip and/ or how long is the turning process? - what is the expected attendance? Having understood this, you can then work out, how many persons you can move in a given period of time. Consider your answer! - Is it that there are too many persons to shuttle within the time frame of the event? - Or can you shuttle the expected audience in a reasonable time to ensure they get to the event to enjoy themselves? Let's say you have no other choice but to shuttle (especially if moving to another venue is not possible) then what do you do? My Answer: -Pull the relevant authorities around a table to discuss the situation. -Present options. -Analyse each option for pros and cons -Select the option with the most pros. -Ensure all persons around the table agree to the plan. -Rehearse it, walk it through, talk it out with all the stakeholders. -If time allows, do it again. -Assign roles to institute the process. -Communicate, communicate, communicate (not only to the team but to your guests) Over communicate in several formats so that they are clear. -Implement signage, maps, guides (CSRs) along the way. Basically make the process as seamless and smooth as possible despite the delays. Lastly everyone should know the plan, it should not be based on whim and fancy and change on the day. Once you have a team who are all on the same page, shuttling of guests can be done properly. That not withstanding, and having done the maths you must take the following into consideration: -Choose a shuttle with maximum capacity for the location and available turning points -Select multiple parking areas -Train attendants, guides, CSRs to explain the next steps to the guests -Install appropriate signage to improve communication and identification. -Create mini taxi hubs to guide guests into shuttles and to facilitate orderly lanes. The One Night Stand is a great initiative but has previously only delivered a once-off sugar hit to regional economies. The support of Music Australia in building regional capacity to grow creative economies in regional spaces is a welcome move. There are aspirations in regional communities to host live music events and appetite from regional communities to attend music events. Let's find more ways to ensure creative industries can thrive in regional areas, particularly through regional touring circuits, live music venues, and youth arts programs. Side note: I can think of a number of regional areas in South Australia that could support a great visitor experience for a One Night Stand. -- Light Regional Council The Barossa Council Barossa Australia South Australian Tourism Commission Adelaide Plains Council REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOYDER Regional Development Australia Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains
We're stoked to support the return of One Night Stand - supporting Australian artists and engagement in regional communities! We'll also be using the unique opportunity to invest in local communities and the music industry with the introduction of place-based capacity building and skills development initiatives.

Entertainment Executive | Expert in Nightlife, Event Management, and Brand Revitalization | CEO of Possh | Estate Administrator of Chippendales Legacy."
The music festival industry is facing a significant challenge as ticket sales continue to drop, and the root cause lies in the increasing reliance on generic entertainment and marketing strategies driven solely by data analytics. While these methods can be effective for short-term gains, they often lack the creativity and vision necessary to sustain long-term interest and excitement. This issue has become a persistent “cancer” within the live events industry, leading to the downfall of even some of the largest festivals. As someone with a deep passion and love for festivals, I see the potential to reverse this trend. With the right creative vision and strategic approach, we can breathe new life into these events and significantly boost their online video audiences. The focus needs to shift back to the authentic experience that festivals can offer, rather than just the numbers-driven approach that has been dominating the scene. Talent without nurturing is nothing. So, I worked closely with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra’s (MPO) media representative Hisham (Harry) Abdul Jalil to engage as many Star Metro readers, and donors, as possible. It was only my second MPO article that I had copy edited after a career pivot journey of 18 years. Yet, I quickly tweaked the media kit intro into a perky one to catch the eye of Star Metro readers and added in facts to give readers context; the efforts made by the MPO to nurture the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO), and what this concert would mean to Malaysia’s musically-talented kids as well as music lovers across genres. Harry jumped in, helping me to clarify some parts of the article. In about 30 minutes, the copy was good to go. Harry and I both thanked each other, with the kind of understanding that comes from having worked on many MPO and MPYO publicity pieces for years before I changed career paths in the late-2000s. We’ve both seen each other’s careers grow. We’ve built a behind-the-scenes appreciation of the reasons for and ways of nurturing audiences, and local talent. We still share goals of ensuring arts outreach and funding get good publicity. While indirectly helping to nurture musical talent over many years, we had come to nurture in ourselves a firm belief in Malaysia’s orchestral talent. Truly, talent needs nurturing, of the musicians who are blessed with it as well as the support systems — including media workers — that ensure such talent continues to have audiences. #nurture #talent #outreach #audiencebuilding #artspublicity

The past weekend was the first DGTL festival of the year, in Amsterdam. Last year this time we (HyperCulture.nl) were commissioned by Bravoure to create the key visual and an array of visual assets for the DGTL 2024 festivals. The theme for 2024 is 'Synergy' — "The combined power of the collective. An exchange of energy, a mutual participation in a moment of liminality." After an extensive research and development phase we landed on a solution that felt like serendipity. https://lnkd.in/eXvhfjfU
