Happy Global Meetings Industry Day, #eventprofs! Today is a day for celebrating our amazing industry and community, but more importantly, it’s a day for raising awareness about the importance, impact, and value of events. Go to the parties, connect with your industry peers, and celebrate. But also remember that we don’t move the needle by yelling into an echo chamber. Amidst the celebrations, let’s include some non #eventprofs by: 🔄 Sharing the Infographic below with your network so they can understand the financial impact of our industry. ❓ Asking someone who isn’t in the industry to reflect and tell you a story about a connection they made at an event that changed their life or career. I promise you, everyone has one! Our work really matters, so let’s celebrate #GMID2024 today, but let’s also make sure the rest of the world understands what we’re celebrating! Happy #GMID2024

While reviewing a recording of a webinar I presented on, I parkoured through the existential crisis of "is that really what my voice sounds like?" and found a new hyperfixation...why am I saying "um" so much? I sound like a beatbox version of Crash Test Dummies, and not in a good way. I know what I'm talking about, I'm confident, I have a sparkling personality...what is with all the "um"? So I took a step back and made a goal to slow down when speaking and replace the "ums" with a brief pause, if I needed to get my thoughts in order before continuing. As I started to do that, panic set in alongside a startling revelation: I was using my precious "ums" as proof that I was still talking, so I wouldn't be interrupted before I was done with my thought. By removing those "ums" I left myself vulnerable to others talking over me or hijacking the conversation before I was ready. I wasn't necessarily worried that those I speak or interact with today would cut me off, rather it was a defense mechanism from all those times the middle of my sentence interrupted the beginning of someone else's. I wanted to share this because March 8 is International Women's Day, and while I personally feel empowered to speak and speak up, many women feel discouraged or uncomfortable doing so. Just last year, researchers at Barnard College and Emory University found that women Members of Congress are more likely to be interrupted than men, 10% more in Senate committees. Not all interruptions are malicious or deliberate, and honestly not all of my trains of thought are worth bringing to the station, but we need to ensure we're giving everyone the opportunity to share and make their voice heard. So speak up, take up space and encourage others to do so...without the "um". #internationalwomensday2024 #iwd2024

You need to be found to be heard - International Women’s Day 2024 As a business, the team at VC Innovations are privileged to have featured 1,000s of leading industry voices on stage, on video, in reports, in blog posts and more. For International Women’s Day 2024, we set out to create something that wouldn’t just talk about what could be done to (yes) #inspireinlcusion but also to find a way to have an impact. We delighted to launch a new initiative aimed at bringing a more diverse set of voices to the work that we do. It is an initiative that relies on our community, as well as our own efforts. We are asking you to think about who you can support; who in your team or your network has valuable industry insights to share but has yet to be brought onto the radar of companies like ours. To take that step on stage for the first time, you must be found to be heard. https://lnkd.in/dvpU-KCb We have seen a growing number of speakers at conferences state that they won’t join the dreaded #manel but surely it is far better to say, not me this time but I have a great colleague who can take my place. That is how to help ensure that we move beyond supportive words and take steps to have an impact. We are also committed to ensuring that our programme of activity is diverse and includes under- represented groups Please use the form in the post linked below to recommend a colleague who has not yet had the opportunity to participate in an industry event. We are keen to speak to them and, crucially, get them involved in future activity. We will not stop in our efforts to bring diverse voices to our work and are grateful for your help and support in ensuring our activity is representative of the full range of communities we serve. #diversebusinesses #fintech #including #investinwomen #financialservices #notjustforoneday #innovationforgood #iwd2024 Calling on all #speakers - help us find your #colleagues.Abdul Khaled Roberto Nicastro Dónal Traynor MBS LIB QFAJoshua Fabian-Miller Christian Hull Jason MaudeDavid Cox Adrian SargentColin Field David Palmer Stuart MacDonald Michael Anyfantakis Paul Loberman Richard Newland Egor Kraev Christoph Berentzen Pol Navarro Richard Bromley, ICA Dip(FCP) and so many more. Empowering refugees through career opportunities | Connecting businesses with diverse talent | Multicultural workplace consultant | Join our Recruit Refugees Community
I want to thank Diversify and their team, for an incredible Nordics Summit 2024! It's difficult to find spaces where I can feel completely myself, genuinely included and surrounded by like-minded #changemakers. The diverse group of individuals you brought together created the most incredible atmosphere of belonging and empowerment. This conference had such a profound impact on my life. Last year at this time I was ready to give up on Recruit Refugees after I had received so much pessimism surrounding the idea. After attending #DNS2023, I was given a boost of reassurance and encouragement to keep going. It may be just one day, but that one day has had an enourmous ripple effect on changemakers, so thank you Diversify for giving us a platform that motivates us to keep going. A couple of things I am taking with me from this year’s #DNS2024: 1. Put yourself out there! You never know which connections might change the course of your life. 2. Seek out spaces that validate and inspire your work, especially when facing skepticism. 3. Companies, try to look beyond language barriers. Give people a chance, and they'll step up! 4. We must address the disconnect between available talent and hiring needs. What's the missing link? 5. Challenge your biases. The diversity of skills and perspectives at the summit was eye-opening. Let's keep this momentum going! How will you contribute? ♻️ Repost to challenge someone in your network. #InclusionMatters #RecruitRefugees #DEI

On September 22nd and 23rd, the United Nations will convene The Summit of the Future, bringing world leaders together to forge international consensus around its Pact for the Future. In their words, it’s “a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change.” In support of this vision and objectives, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑫𝒂𝒚𝒔 will bring together representatives from Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, youth, and many more in the days leading up to the Summit. RADAR is thrilled (and frankly a little wonderstruck) to be sending two of its core team members, Keely Adler and Caitlin Keeley to the Action Days to participate in events covering digital and technology, peace and security, and sustainable development and financing. But most of all, eager to engage in the dedicated focus on future generations — and how we cultivate conversation and action that genuinely serves them and their futures that hang in the balance. As part of our participation, we’ll also be hanging out at the 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 organized and hosted by School of International Futures (SOIF) and Futures Friends. This official side event is all about building momentum and driving action around the Summit and, in particular, the Declaration on Future Generations agenda. Caitlin and Keely will be on the main plenary (which will also be live-streamed virtually) sharing the story of RADAR and our vision of Radical Collaboration for Hopeful Futures. Which is of course to say, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑰𝒕. (If you’ve RSVPed to attend already, you can also catch Keely as part of the Future Friends 333 event that kicks off the day in-person, where we may or may not have a lil RADAR magic up our sleeves by way of Signal Bingo & some fun prizes.)
