Hollywood has a way with animation films that strike the right balance between entertainment and life lessons. And Disney coupled with Pixar is a match made in heaven! What gems they have given us - Inside Out being the most amazing one. A brilliant film that personified emotions and took us into a tween girl's headspace, it won the Oscar for best animation film that year. Now the sequel comes with a lot of viewer expectations riding on it. Part 2 doesn't disappoint, but doesn't fascinate either. Diving into Riley's head just as she crosses 13, one would have expected more of a complexed story. Instead, the film focuses on the ice-hockey tournament that Riley is preparing for, and the introduction of new emotions, notably anxiety. Anxiety hogs a lot of space, both in terms of screen space and the way it messes up Riley. True, it does control a large part of a teenager's life, but so do confusion, angst, bewilderment and changing priorities. Wish the film talked more about a teenager's sense of uncertainty about self, coupled with a desire to fit in. (It touches upon it.) Still, not a bad start! Must-watch roller coaster of a film! For all the fans of Liu Cixin's Three-Body Problem TV series, here's some exciting news! Someone has already made the sequel 'Dark Forest' as a CGI film! It's been posted on China's Youtube equivalent, Bilibili, since June 23rd and is blowing up. . . Even more crazy is that it was entirely self-produced by an amateur animator without any external investment. One year ago I won the best animation award for 2022 with my short film U_92. The words from the Evermotion jury was : Vasilis Koutlis: Aurel Alto obviously created a great short film. It stands out from anything else I've seen not only for the amount of work, which was enormous but also because of the respect for all the basic principles of 3D art. It was an enjoyable 10 minutes of viewing! Hrvoje Cop: This entry immediately stood out from the others, not only due to its sheer lenght at almost 9 minutes, but also the visual style and presence of an actual story. While not perfect, and in particular moments revealing of its 'made by a solo guy in UE' nature, it is without question the best of this year's entries. I would also like to add the audio was well done and fit the overall theme nicely. Congratulations on your persistence and hard work. Michal Horba: As my previous speakers said - your animation stood out from othes; you actually took effort to make a real movie. Congratulations on your hard work! Yet it lacks some in plot, or technical aspects, however it is really amazing to realize that a single guy took a shoot and made a nice UE piece.Congratulations and keep it going!
