Excellent retirement symposium today in Washington sponsored by Employee Benefit Research Institute and Milken Institute. Focused on retirement savings innovation and impact. Engaging panels and industry leaders. I enjoyed attending it. A few key takeaways - • AI is in its early stage for financial services industry. But quickly accelerating in its use • Digital and AI solutions are bringing scale to new product innovations - student debt services, retiree budgeting/income planning and protection against elder financial fraud • Emergency savings interest and adoption is gaining momentum. Particularly with large market plans. To date, separate plan solutions. Not integrated in 401(k) • Small business retirement plan coverage is still a leading industry concern. Helping small businesses see the priority for offering robust benefits. And simplicity for plan design, implementation and ongoing administration • A majority of individuals are on a path to retirement readiness. Secure Acts are a positive driver for that. But still a significant number of individuals not on that path. Further issues with ethnic and gender wide disparities An important discussion of the continued need for industry collaboration with policymakers and regulators, to push forward with policy, product evolution and adoption.
