"I love seeing firsthand what good partnerships can do. For example, our financial education programs help lower income families budget and plan for the future, allowing them to do things we take for granted; like paying for school excursions or buying an additional set of school uniforms for their children. “The importance of developing and fostering effective partnerships, in order to address many of the problems we see in society cannot be understated," says Janet Liu, ANZ’s Head of Social Impact and Community Partnerships. ANZ and Partnerships Brokers Association recently launched the ANZ-PBA Partnering Award to celebrate partnerships that demonstrate collaboration between organisations which address a social or environmental issue. The winning partnership will receive professional development opportunities with PBA up to the value of $6,000 (incl. GST). "Partnerships are important to me because they bring together expertise and resources to tackle complex challenges more effectively. For me, this award means that we can help improve the understanding of good partnering practices to ultimately deliver long term benefits for the Australian community." Applications for the ANZ-PBA Partnering Award are now open and close Friday 16 August. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gvi2gxYq

TAAC's educational programs, such as the Young Enterprising Scholars (Y.E.S.) Program and the Small Business Empowerment Program by the Economic Development Institute (EDI), aren't just about imparting knowledge but about shaping future leaders. The upcoming New Heights Gala is a testament to TAAC's commitment to education and community impact. Beyond being a glamorous event, it serves as a primary fundraiser for the TAAC Education Program, providing essential resources to expand the reach and effectiveness of our initiatives. Attendees aren't just participants; they become contributors to a future where education is a transformative force. Join TAAC in redefining what it means to be a chamber, where global connections lead to local impact. #TAAC #GlobalConnections #LocalImpact #BusinessNetworking #CommunityImpact #ChamberOfCommerce

We are delighted to announce that Rye Chamber’s bid for levelling up funding has been successful. We will benefit from a share of £185K* which will be divided between Rye, Bexhill and Battle Chambers of Commerce according to our respective spending priorities as approved by The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). Rye Chamber met with DLUHC last November to discuss the priorities for Rye, and we subsequently submitted an outline plan for the deployment of funding in our town. Our business community is passionate about the changes that the town needs to make to thrive, and we have an ambitious strategy for ensuring that these plans can become a reality. The Levelling Up Partnerships have recognised the need for funding to be distributed beyond local councils so that grassroots spending decisions can be made within communities and we very much welcome this strategy from DLUHC. They are supporting our plans to undertake a feasibility study for achieving Business Improvement District (BID) status for Rye which will be an important step in deciding the town’s future. Achieving this would enable Rye to develop projects and services that would directly benefit the town’s economy. DLUHC has also approved funding for improvements to the public realm. We are grateful to have the support of MP, Sally-Ann Hart who recognises the valuable contribution that Chambers of Commerce make to their communities. The next twelve months are going to be very exciting indeed for our town. Watch this space! *The funding comes from the total £20M investment to the Rother Levelling Up Partnership and is for the financial year commencing April 2024. #businessimprovementdistrict #DLUHC #ryesussex #chamberofcommerce #levellingup #supportingsmallbusiness #rotherdistrictcouncil

***Is This Acceptable?*** I recently discovered another failure by Yass Valley Council (see picture attached). Despite the responsibilities and substantial public funds managed by our elected council, it has come to light that the Executive Body of YVC has chosen NOT to implement a formal and ongoing Professional Development Plan for Councillors. The only training provided was an induction session at the beginning of the Council term in 2021. This is a clear and direct contravention of s 232(1)(g) of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), which states that all elected members MUST make reasonable efforts to acquire and maintain the necessary skills to perform their roles effectively. It is also a failure in adhering to their own policy (CA-POL-08 valid from 22 May 2023) on Professional Development which states in its introduction "The purpose of this Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy is to demonstrate Yass Valley Council’s commitment to ensuring that the Mayor and Councillors have access to induction and ONGOING professional development which will assist them to develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required to effectively perform their civic role and responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1993." As a retired Australian Army officer, I can attest to the importance of ongoing professional development. Over my 27-year career, I completed an 18-month commissioning course at the Royal Military College - Duntroon, numerous career development courses, and most notably, a 12-month course in 2017, during which I completed a Master’s degree (ANU) at the Australian Command and Staff Course. How can we expect our elected Councillors to manage hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds and government grants WITHOUT adequate formal training and professional development? This failure in initiative and responsibility is highly unacceptable. Do you find this appropriate for an elected body entrusted with such significant financial responsibilities? Share your thoughts with me in the comments or via DM and let’s demand the accountability and professionalism that the Yass Valley Community deserves. I am a business owner, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a University of Canberra Law student specialising in Corporate and Business Law, so a vote for me is a vote for responsible, and proficient executive decision making backed by credible qualifications.
