Winning an Award: It's More Than Just the Trophy! Did you know that winning an award opens doors far beyond the accolade itself? it's not just about the moment of victory; there's a whole world of extras that come with it, often overlooked but incredibly valuable. Take, for example, the opportunity to be featured in prestigious publications – a benefit that's worth its weight in gold. Normally, securing a spot in a leading magazine can be costly, but winning an award can land you that coveted space for free. And it's not just any advertisement; it's a feature that celebrates your achievement, adding an extra layer of credibility and recognition. So, the next time you're considering entering an award, remember it's not just about the win – it's about the journey and the doors it opens.

Hey NAFSAns! Now is the time to recognize your wonderful colleagues by nominating them for a NAFSA award by 2/1/24. Don't underestimate the power of recognition and representation. 🏆 🌟 www.nafsa.org/awards Here's a passage from one of my favorite books, Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman: "Cultivate instantaneous generosity ... Whenever a generous impulse arises in your mind - to give money, check in on a friend, send an email praising someone's work - act on the impulse right away ... When we fail to act on such urges, it's rarely out of mean-spiritedness, or because we have second thoughts about whether the prospective recipient deserves it. More often, it's because of some attitude stemming from our efforts to feel in control of our time. We tell ourselves we'll turn to it when our urgent work is out of the way, or when we have enough spare time to do it really well ... But the only [efforts] that count are the ones you actually get around to making ... generous action reliably makes you feel much happier." This is one of my 2024 intentions overall. Nominating a colleague for an award is a great way to start the year! www.nafsa.org/awards

#1 Bestselling author, Keynote Speaker, life and business strategist and multi-award-winning Peak Performance coach
🤔 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬? As a general rule of thumb I don't really give them any thought I must admit as for many, it is like a popularity contest and not about the content that is or has been provided. Take some TV awards as an example, until recently (we probably all know the shenanigans that went on), you were pretty much guaranteed that 'This Morning' was going to win every year because it was more popular that it's other category competitors. Now, I have won awards over the years which is great for the ego although the awards I feel most proud about winning, are when I didn't even know I was up for an award. I say this because when that happens, the award is given for the quality of work/service done for the day to day service provided to clients and not with the intention of winning awards. This is an exception, as I have applied for the The Speaker Awards. The reason I have applied for this award is because it was strongly suggested I did, on more than one occasion. Now, I appreciate that is going against everything I have said previously however, these awards are judged by an independent panel of experts from the speaking industry. In other words, any awards given are legitimately won as there is no favouritism involved from organisers or sponsors. Being honest, it is also strategic decision as well as I will get to meet many 'speaker bookers' and hopefully, create many different contacts for now and in the future. Who knows if I will even be shortlisted and being honest, that would be amazing if I was as I am up against some amazing speakers - some of whom are well known names in the large international conference arena's. I know my story is powerful as so many people have given me that feedback, and it has also been featured in numerous publications and also 2 additional books so far. But I don't know exactly what the judges are looking for or the other applications. So whether I get shortlisted, have my application dismissed, become a finalist or win the category I have entered, for me, it is a win/win scenario. The morale of this story is not about me or an award, it is about doing it anyway and the outcome will be what it will be. Just because you don't know the outcome does not mean you don't take the action anyway. Life is about learning, growing and sharing what we know to improve ours and other people's lives. If nothing else for me, the judges will have witnessed my story, probably for the first time, and if my little story helps them on their personal journey then everything is already a success. Have a great day and no, there isn't a link saying 'vote for me' as it is not that type of award. Good luck to all the other entrants too 🤞(although fingers crossed more for me obviously😉😂) #TheSpeakerAwards #TheSpeakerAwards2024 #Speaker #PublicSpeaking

A super important thing I've learnt in college... Don't let other people diminish your victories! A friend of mine recently received a HUGE award after months of hard work. However, most people failed to congratulate her and some even dismissed her! I'm sure you're wondering: Why didn't people acknowledge it if the award was such a huge deal? Guess what: It wasn't out of jealousy or malicious intent. But simply due to IGNORANCE! Most people failed to grasp the importance of the award or the effort required to achieve it. After all, not everyone knows about everything. Whether it be an award or a competitive exam or even colleges for that matter! So, here’s the lesson: Don't seek validation from others for your journey. You are on your own path, and you shouldn't let others' responses determine how you feel about something. What's your take on this? Lemme know in the comments! LinkedIn LinkedIn Guide to Creating #victories #achievements #goals #careerpath #journey
