The inauguration of APM Terminals’ USD 115 million investment in the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) makes the Onne, River State terminal one of the most digitally advanced in APM Terminals’ global portfolio. The major investment, initiated in 2021, is an indication of the company's commitment to economic growth in West Africa, according to Olaf Gelhausen, APM Terminals’ Chief Operating Officer. “With this expansion, Onne is capable of much larger volumes going forward. The growing capacity of the terminal reflects the potential, and the unlimited opportunities ahead for Nigeria,” he told onlookers at the event, broadcast live on YouTube. The upgrade encompasses a wide-ranging transformation, including extensive yard expansion, state-of-the-art equipment acquisition, an innovative auto gate system, an advanced data centre, and a modern office complex. All of which will contribute to stronger partnership with the Nigerian Government, to setting new benchmarks in customer service delivery and to lifting WACT’s operational efficiency to a new standard.
