Not only the largest, but the most efficient terminal in Europe – that's the forecast for APM Terminals Maasvlakte II B.V. as it announces today a 'mega order' for a new Automated Horizontal Transport System, including up to 71 battery-powered Lift Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV's) from Konecranes. The terminal's expansion project, which sees it double capacity by 2027, will seal its status as the largest fully automated APM Terminal in Europe. Its total area, spanning 130 hectares, will include 2,000-meter-long deep-sea quay and 500 meters of barge quay. "We are laying a reliable foundation to meet our ambitious growth and CO2 reduction targets, and we can also serve our customers well at the expanded terminal,” says Harold Kunst, Managing Director, APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, pictured with Mikko Lepistö. When APM Terminals Moin, Costa Rica, donated special capture and release equipment to the local fire brigade, they didn't expect to benefit from the machinery themselves just weeks later. But the discovery of an active bee hive – dangerous in terminal that's operated 24/7 – necessitated their safe rehoming by a firefighter in protective clothing. The 'bee vac' provides just the right level of suction to remove bees without harming them, enabling experts to then release them to a safer area. Our environmental team at the terminal in Limon work to minimize our impact on local fauna and wildlife, recognizing the importance of insects to ecosystem balance, just as we recognize our responsibility to ‘bee kind’ to nature in the communities in which we operate. #beekind #responsibility #csr

“Truck Drivers, we appreciate you!” That was the message from our terminals in the United States as the country celebrated national Truck Driver Appreciation Week last month. Although it's mainly celebrated in the US, appreciation for truckers is a sentiment echoed across all our terminals on a day-to-day basis. We strive to ensure drivers at our facilities enjoy problem-free, safe and efficient journeys. Read more about how we do that: https://bit.ly/3YfIDyd #Truckers #Appreciation #NTDAW24 #connectivity

A psychologist by training, executive coach, and pioneer of the Power Women Network for APM Terminals in Costa Rica, Lisbeth Thomas is committed to our diversity and inclusion principles. As Director of Human Resources and Labour Relations at APM Terminals Moin, she’s nonetheless aware of the challenges that exist in an industry which, like many, still has a way to go on inclusion. But that’s what makes her job all the more important, and where she - like all trailblazing women at APM Terminals - makes a difference every day. Read more: https://bit.ly/3YpdPMR

When 70% of vessels arrive outside of their appointed timeslots, yet 96% of those vessels leave bang on time, you know we’re talking about an APM Terminals location. APM Terminals Gothenburg to be exact. Our team in Sweden recently deployed bi-directional routes for straddle carriers, shortening driving distances to speed container handling for our time-strapped customers. Because, there’s no limit to the lengths – or directions – we will go to lift standards of efficiency for our customers. Read more: https://bit.ly/48fhQqE

Already a leader in terminal sustainability, APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam has today announced that it will offer shore power to its shipping line customers from 2028 – a full two years ahead of legislated requirement. The move, made in partnership with Rotterdam Shore Power, a partnership between the Port of Rotterdam and Eneco, is an important step toward both companies’ ambitions to make the Port of Rotterdam a world leader in sustainability. It echoes the APM Terminals group decarbonisation goals, which include a 65% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 2022. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Y6ln5P
