College Grads are under-employed ! 52% of college graduates are working in jobs that don’t require their degree and 45% of them are staying underemployed 10 years post-graduation, says a new study by the WSJ of 10 million people who entered the job market over the past decade. College graduates need to pick the right major, have internships, and get a good first job if they want to have long-term earnings. Otherwise, underemployment has lasting implications for their careers and lives. If you know a person who will soon be a college grad and doesn’t have a great job offer please send them my way. Landing a job in this competitive job market requires new skills. I’m setting up a new course that lasts for a month to help recent college grads write a strong resume & cover letter, tell more compelling stories, learn how to interview with confidence, and learn how to connect with others. I’m compressing the training into one month with twice-weekly sessions to enable college grads to understand the job market and land a job that works for them as quickly as possible. Even if you’ve landed a job the job market is constantly changing. You are responsible for your career. To manage your career successfully you will have to continuously learn new skills brought about by changing technology and changing market conditions. You should be planning your career path and understanding what you need next. Step back, give yourself some room to think and dream and then put some practical steps in place to help you get there. #careersuccess #jobhunting #recentcollegegrads

Creating an impactful resume as an eager college graduate can be challenging. However, by highlighting education and relevant experiences, potential employers will quickly see the value and potential in hiring. Start by listing educational achievements and coursework that directly relate to the desired position. Then, emphasize internships, volunteer work, or part-time jobs that demonstrate practical skills. Be sure to include any leadership roles or achievements within clubs or organizations. Remember, employers are looking for candidates who can immediately contribute to their organization, so tailor the resume accordingly. Don't forget to proofread and format the resume for easy readability. Best of luck in landing that dream job! The #1 thing I hear from parents of college students and grads: “The college placement office doesn’t do anything to help my kid get a job.” The term “placement office” was retired in favor of “career services office” in the 80s. Judging by my recent poll, people aren’t satisfied with the preparation students receive from schools in job search. Maybe people’s expectations are inflated. Career services offices: ❌ Place students ✔️ Offer empowerment services (hence the name) ❌ Write resumes ✔️ Review resumes ❌ Ensure students are active in their searches ✔️ Teach search methods ❌ Proactive ✔️ Reactive They don’t take students by the collar and drag them inside. Simply set your expectations accordingly. Need supplemental help? Parents and Jobseekers - Message me - Tap Neil Danzger, CFA.
