👨🌾 What can men’s gardening groups help to nurture, besides vegetables and herbs? 🥕 Connection. Camaraderie. A sense of belonging. How? Via innovative, flexible, preventative, and community-based approaches (like BOP’s Northamptonshire-based #SPRING gardening group below!) #SocialPrescribing programmes can support people to build connections and manage #LongTermHealthConditions so that they stay well. Crucially, programmes like this also reduce demand for public services such as GP appointments. Thanks Better Society Capital for supporting SPRING and others. Innovative commissioning models like Spring Social Prescribing are a proven way of delivering efficient healthcare services and reducing the pressure on public services, supporting a shift to prevention and away from crisis response. 🚀 Spring is a community-driven support network based in Northamptonshire, helping people with long-term mental and physical health conditions through holistic methods. From social groups to gym memberships, 90% of participants have reported improved wellbeing, and 85% have seen an improvement in their mental health after the 12-month programme. 💡This network is supported by us through Bridges Outcomes Partnerships, a social enterprise working with Government and community groups to improve outcomes for citizens and the planet. I am proud to share our 2025 Pre-Budget Submission paper. 🙏 This our second pre-budget submission for Community Therapy Ireland. I would like to thank our members for giving their valued time and insights to this paper. We join sector colleagues in calling on the government to recognise the enormous potential of investing in the community and voluntary sector. Every day we hear stories of people across Ireland who cannot access the basic services they need. These are stories of vulnerable people. A person experiencing abuse in their own home. A person struggling to pay bills and manage their mental health. A person whose child needs support which they cannot find. Our sector reaches out to these people. Our sector focuses on developing creative ways we can bring marginalised and excluded people in and support them in their challenges. That is worth investing in. #Budget2025 is a chance for our government to put a stop to the chronic underfunding of our sector and enable us to do the valuable work we do without worry. On behalf of the members of Community Therapy Ireland, we are proud to share our Pre-Budget Submission paper 2025. Together, we developed this clear, considered and modest proposal with the goal of demonstrating how, if sustainably and adequately funded, Community Therapy can support the State in its mission to deliver accessible, affordable and professional therapy to those who need it, when they need it. We have taken time to consider how our services can play a more pivotal role in addressing the State's challenges in meeting demand for services, particularly since the pandemic. No one is more aware of the issues Ireland faces in mental health than our members. Our members operate within their communities, responding to needs, some for over 40 years. Our members are ready to do more, and our Pre-Budget submission provides a clear pathway for how we can do this. We look forward to engaging with key decision-makers about our solution-focussed and progressive proposal in the coming weeks 🙏 #HSE #Tusla #Budget2025 Health Service Executive Tusla - Child and Family Agency Mary Butler TD Roderic O'Gorman Paschal Donohoe Simon Harris #communitytherapy #counselling #psychotherapy #mentalhealth #health

Thankyou South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust and South West London Integrated Care System, for the invite to the conference yesterday. The day, for me was fantastic, but each group I attended only further highlighted a gap in communications. it did make me smile at one of the presentations, we all ( on my table ) introduced each other, I gave out my postcard and described what I do, then when one of the other tables gave their answer - feedback to the presentation, saying they were looking in to doing a directory service, and that is when everyone on my table called out and said its already being done and pointed to me, waving my postcard. I wish I took more 😊 here's looking forwards to the next conference Web: www.mymentalwellness.uk #recoverycollegeonline #rco #recovery #mentalhealth #wellbeing #mentalhealthandwellbeing #wellbeingmatters #mentalhealthmatters #positivementalhealth #itsgoodtotalk #onlinelearning #elarning #onlinecourses #wellbeingcourses #onlineeducation #mentalhealthawareness #backtouni #university #highereducation #fundraising #Mymentalwellness.uk #meiandyou #mentalhealthsupport #mentalwellness #youmatter #mentalillness #itcouldbeyouoneday #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealthadvocate #me #you #home #resolution #today #acceptance #trauma #selfcare #otherillnesses #itsokay #medication #antidepressants #community #UK #local #NHS #counselling #bekind #smallsteps

🔔I'm keen to connect Children and Young People's health and mental wellbeing projects with the SUPPORTERS they need to thrive. If you can think of potential projects, supporters and (crucially) connectors worth knowing about, I'd be extremely grateful! The problem we face is clear. And whilst prevention is 100% better than cure, the fact remains that hundreds of families need help, right now. My take is fairly straightforward; 1) PROJECTS. There are some excellent, already-established projects in the field of children and young people's mental health which are in crucial need of support (from funding to advice, amplification to expertise). 2) SUPPORTERS. There is a raft of existing and potential supporters out there (from philanthropists to professionals, brands to sector-experts). 3) CONNECTORS. There is enormous goodwill from a potential group force of connectors, willing to help make the links between 1 and 2. So the challenge is clear; 🌍Connect Health and Mental wellbeing Projects with Support. CHAMPS. ✨In short, we need to get MUCH better as asking those driving the PROJECTS that WORK about exactly what THEY need help with and WHO they need to meet. We then need to go to work in CONNECTING them (with help from a whole array of connectors) to the SUPPORTERS they need. ✨ It really can be as simple as that. As we work on the HOW, please post here if you can think of; ✨Potential projects 💚Potential supporters 🌍Potential connectors Thank you! Those already on my radar include... Kia ora All I'm taking up the challenge again this year and reposting this article Mike Watson wrote for me last year (with minor edits) as it still rings true. Please help by donating or by getting involved yourself. 😎 Shining a spotlight on mental health (Interview written by Mike Watson) "We don't talk about suicide," says Gerard, "and that's part of the problem." Gerard Kelly is the Community Planting Coordinator in the Parks and Recreation Unit. He's taking part in 'Movember', a fundraising event shining a spotlight on men's health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health. And it's the latter that is closest to Gerard's heart. "Men die by suicide at an alarming rate, and it's often the culmination of untreated mental illness." Gerard's brother Mike died just before Christmas three years ago after a short, but crippling battle with mental illness. "No-one saw it coming. One minute he was here, the next he was gone." Gerard says there's a stigma around suicide that is understandable, but it is important to remember the person was unwell and not in their right state of mind. "When a loved one dies of cancer or heart disease, we blame the sickness. It usually sparks a conversation about it. We go get a check up, or watch what we eat. But when someone takes their life, we usually sweep it under the carpet. It's too hard to talk about. But it's a sickness, just like cancer or heart disease, and it can be treated." Gerard says everyone has a responsibility to take practical steps to look after themselves, including their mental health. "Stress is a big killer, so reducing stress is critical. For some, just getting back into nature is really important. And I'm a great believer in volunteer work; it's amazing to see the effect on a person when they take the focus off themselves and give something to others – it's a game changer. "There's actually a lot of good, practical tools out there now too. Like the depression.org.nz website, and the EAP programme available through work. I'm not afraid to admit I used it when Mike died, and it helped." Gerard also reckons checking in with your mates is key. "Ask how they're feeling, and be honest if you get asked too. You can't always spot the signs that someone is battling, but if you do you might just be able to steer them in the right direction for help," said Gerard. "But at the end of the day, it's up to the individual to seek help." Gerard remembers Mike for the loving and charismatic man that he was, not for the sickness that ultimately took him. Visit Gerard's 'Movember' page to make a donation https://lnkd.in/g_xz8Zqu There's also the Suicide Crisis Helpline 0508 828 865 (0508 TAUTOKO).

Thinking this morning around how important and vital the Mental Health community needs to always be open and should drive their work around partnerships. Meaningful partnerships can serve as a powerful catalyst for growth and impact. Collaborating with like-minded organisations, such as non-profits, community centers, government, or research institutions, allows mental health workplaces to expand their reach and resources beyond what they could achieve alone. I believe such partnerships foster a sense of unity and solidarity within the mental health ecosystem, breaking down silos and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. By pooling resources and expertise, organisations can amplify their efforts in advocacy, education, and service delivery, ultimately making a more significant impact on the well-being of individuals and communities. Through meaningful partnerships, the journey toward destigmatizing mental health, improving access to care, and promoting holistic wellness becomes not just a solitary endeavor, but a collective mission driven by shared values and collaboration. #Collaboration #MentalHealthSupport #Partnerships #WorkingTogether #OneGoal

We are thrilled to highlight one of our 2023 grant recipients: The AOK Project. This incredible initiative tackles financial barriers hindering young individuals' access to crucial mental health recovery opportunities. Through their Acts of Kindness initiative, transformative wellness grants are provided, covering courses, summer camps, healthcare needs, and more. What sets them apart is their emphasis on reciprocity and creating Circles of Kindness. Grant recipients, encouraged to extend acts of kindness, become catalysts for positive change, fostering a community-driven cycle of compassion, gratitude, and resilience. Eligible recipients, aged up to 19 and referred by mental healthcare providers, ensure targeted and impactful support for those in need. In essence, The AOK Project not only addresses immediate financial barriers but also cultivates a culture of kindness beyond individual recipients. By blending generosity, empowerment, and community building, it stands as a testament to the transformative potential of compassion in youth mental health. #CourtnallSociety #TheAOKProject #YouthMentalHealth

Fantastic to see friends and former advocates working together so passionately to bring about meaningful change in our mental health system. Thanks to the amazing work of the teams at YoungMinds and the passionate community of young people, we are beginning to understand the challenges facing our youth. The waiting lists have grown and there is no immediate, lasting solution proposed- apart from the creation and nationwide development and roll out of Early Support Hubs! A safe and calming space for young people to go when they want to reach out for support! We have started to accept mental illness and wellbeing are not selective and does not discriminate. Everyone is talking about it now, which is fantastic! However, the silence we face when simply asking for that for help is terrifying. There is no help… the emergency departments are not spaces for anyone in a mental health crisis but there is no other choice! We must see immediate and long term solutions that are necessary and in the interests of what it’s set up to serve #YoungMinds #mentalhealth #youthmentalhealth #studenthealth #earlysupporthubs #KnockLouder #mensmentalhealth #SpringBudget
Pleased to announce the next phase of YoungMinds' #EndTheWait campaign, and we need YOU to help us! Nicole, Paddy, Jessica and I have written an open letter to the Chancellor asking for a nationwide roll-out of early support hubs. Prevention is the key to resolving the mental health emergency and your support will help our message reach the government. Jeremy Hunt chaired a committee in 2021 which found that a “consistent, comprehensive community offer to complement available school-based and clinical support across England” would be work. This supports our campaign, yet the current approach is not consistent. Please help us #FundTheHubs by adding your name to the letter: https://lnkd.in/dpjMUHZW Thank you for your support. 🧠 Creating Mental Health Alliances for Enhanced Care🧠 The importance of collaboration in mental healthcare cannot be overstated. The recent insights from NHS Confederation emphasise the power of mental health alliances in driving better outcomes for patients. By developing partnerships between providers, communities, and policymakers, we can break down silos and ensure a more holistic approach to care. 🌟 Key Takeaways: ✅️ Integrated Care: Alliances enable a seamless blend of services, ensuring that mental health support is comprehensive and continuous. ✅️ Community Engagement: Involving local communities in decision-making ensures that care is tailored to the unique needs of the population. ✅️ Innovative Solutions: Partnerships pave the way for innovative care models that can adapt to the evolving landscape of mental health needs. As we continue to face growing mental health challenges, such alliances will be crucial in delivering the high-quality care that every individual deserves. #MentalHealth #Healthcare #Collaboration #Innovation #NHS 📰🖱https://lnkd.in/eTwsmxUh

Recreation Therapist and Producer; We create custom videos and shows that empower children and youth.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at Care for Kids from the perspective of all health domains. We talked about physical health, now let’s look at social health. Social health refers to our relationships both with ourselves and others. We want to foster healthy relationships for our kids, so how do we do that. One, we can lead by example. What kind of relationships do we foster as parents, are they healthy, can we express ourselves, are we accepted for who we are, if conflict arises in our relationships, how do we handle that? And how are we managing our relationship with ourselves? Do we speak positively about ourselves, do we take time for self-care, and do we practice self-respect? By maintaining healthy relationships, we are showing our kids via example. Perhaps we will find that we need to make some healthy changes in our own lives. We can also talk with our kids about what they feel a healthy relationship is, and if they can make any changes in their life to create more positive social health. The biggest thing to remember is to stay involved and keep talking with your children. The relationship they have with you is one of the most important of all, so keep the communication open, and support them with love and kindness. Here is a great website that gives tips on how to talk to your child, youth or teen about healthy relationships and healthy living in general: https://lnkd.in/gFDnYVVf...
