🤔 How Service Design is Transforming the Public Sector: Oslo kommune When we think of service design, we often associate it with the private sector: shiny apps, seamless customer journeys, and innovative business models. But the impact of service design in the public sector is equally transformative, if not more so. In a world where citizens expect the same level of convenience and efficiency from government services as they do from private companies, service design is the key to bridging the gap. Here’s how service design is creating value in the public sector: 1️⃣ Improves Citizen Experience. Service design puts citizens at the center of public services. By mapping out user journeys and identifying pain points, governments can deliver services that are intuitive, accessible, and responsive to real needs. Think faster permit approvals, simpler tax filing processes, or more accessible healthcare systems. 2️⃣ Increases Trust in Government. When public services are designed with empathy and clarity, they build trust. Citizens feel heard and valued, which strengthens their relationship with government institutions. Trust is the foundation of a healthy democracy. 3️⃣ Reduces Costs and Inefficiencies. By streamlining processes and eliminating bureaucratic red tape, service design helps public organizations operate more efficiently. This means fewer wasted resources, faster service delivery, and better use of taxpayer money. 4️⃣ Promotes Equity and Inclusion. Service design ensures that public services are accessible to everyone, including marginalized or underserved communities. Whether it’s designing multilingual platforms or creating services for people with disabilities, it’s about leveling the playing field. 5️⃣ Drives Innovation in Governance. The public sector is often seen as slow to adapt, but service design changes that. By adopting a human-centered approach, governments can innovate and modernize their services, from digital transformation to data-driven decision-making. 6️⃣ Enhances Employee Experience. It’s not just about citizens—service design also improves the experience of public sector employees. When internal processes are streamlined and tools are user-friendly, employees can focus on delivering value rather than battling inefficiencies. The public sector has a unique opportunity to use service design to create meaningful, lasting impact. It’s not just about better services—it’s about building a better society. How have you seen service design make a difference in the public sector? Let’s share examples and inspire change! 💡 #ServiceDesign #PublicSector #CitizenExperience #GovernmentInnovation #DigitalTransformation #Inclusion

Thanks David Demers - will be watching this webinar on #accessibledesign. And for my architecture, planning, geography and built environment folks, check this out! Ron Buliung might be of interest to you and your students! 🤓
💼💡Excited to share insights from my recent webinar on Accessible Design! It was a pleasure guiding design professionals through the integration of accessibility into built environments. We explored how incorporating accessibility considerations not only sparks innovation but significantly reduces costs in the long run. It's all about making #Accessibility an intrinsic part of the design process, rather than an afterthought. My aim is to equip professionals with the tools to design captivating, accessible spaces that are safe, inviting, and universally #Inclusive. Stay tuned for future webinars and events where I’ll continue to explore the exciting intersection of accessibility and design. During MAPPED-a-thons, participants learn how to contribute to this research tool by identifying and inputting content to build out the library of projects across the city. This public platform showcases resources for communities to advance their design and planning initiatives by mapping ideas, projects, people, plans, and organizations. The session includes a short presentation introducing MAPPED then transitions into breakout groups researching and inputting community design data to publish online! Not Chicago-Based? Not a Problem! This Conversation will center around the methods and examples from Chicago but can be applied to your communities, typologies, and regions as well! MAPPED is a tool that can be used to help center conversations around spaces designed for the community (or possibly not) and help bring a vocabulary to work with communities regardless of their training in the built environment.

Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind. Design has no borders. In 2024, San Diego Tijuana didn't just prove this—we redefined it. This year transformed from a decade-long dream into a blueprint for cross-border innovation. As President of FreshForm. and Board Member of World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, I witnessed how design thinking can dissolve boundaries and create meaningful experiences. Our key victories weren't just about events—they were about reimagining what's possible: • Leading the World Design Capital designation (www.wdc2024.org), proving that two cities separated by a border can unite through design leadership • Hosting groundbreaking conferences (DDX) that brought global design experts to our region • Providing strategic advisory work to AI companies like Credo AI (Advancing responsible AI through AI Governance) and no-code GenAI app building with Aliases, Inc. (check out: www.askdream.ai) Three moments that captured our design journey: 1. WDC 2024 Board Appointment Reflection - "Powered by Community. Connected by Design." https://lnkd.in/gYdf4x7Y This wasn't just a title—it was a commitment to collaborative transformation. 2. World Design Festival Presentation (powered by Tijuana Design Week) - "Borderless Experiences" https://lnkd.in/gCVE4f9c Exploring how design can transcend physical and conceptual limitations. 3. Passing the WDC Torch to Frankfurt RheinMain https://lnkd.in/gvZcTqta A moment of reflection, gratitude, and anticipation for future design possibilities. Looking ahead, FreshForm. will continue pushing boundaries—in experience design, in frontier and responsible AI, in cross-border collaboration. Our work isn't about drawing lines; it's about erasing them. To every designer, innovator, and curious mind who believes design can change the world: this year proved you right. #DesignLeadership #CrossBorderCollaboration #ResponsibleAI #LinkedInRewind #Coauthor #2024wrapped -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind! #ServiceDesign is currently dominated by a focus on the #UserJourney and therefore is not sufficient in itself for highly complex public challenges which cross agencies and sectors. To tackle complex public sector issues, the integration of #SystemicDesign capacity and a cross-disciplinary approach is crucial.
