Canary Media’s chart of the week shows how wind and solar energy generated more power than coal in the U.S.! For reference: Just 5 years ago, coal’s share of power generation was 4x that of wind + solar combined. #weareULSolutions
Chart: Wind and solar are outperforming coal on US grid this year

While we are currently seeing a positive acceleration in wind and solar capacity (>60% increase in GW installed in 2023 compared with 2022), there are still fundamental barriers which threaten to derail the speed and scale of the deployment required to enable a 2050 power system built on 70%+ renewables. In our video, “the real reason wind & solar projects are being held back” we dispel four common myths on why wind & solar projects are being held up. The industry needs to start shifting its focus from wind farms to energy farms as we have limited space which we need to make use of in an efficient way. A synergy of offshore wind and floating solar is the way to go. “If you only fill 20% of wind farm space with floating solar, you can already double the amount of energy that this energy farm gives over the year, and if you use more of the space, you can go up to five times more energy per year of the same area of the sea,” according to Allard van Hoeken, Founder and CEO of Oceans of Energy #floatingsolar #marineenergy #offshorewind #OEEC2023 https://lnkd.in/ew4QJV_e
Floating solar market will be as big as onshore solar sector, says Oceans of Energy CEO

This merits reposting again for weekend readers and video watchers….. Are you interested in learning more about the vast potential of combining offshore wind, offshore solar, and energy storage? Watch this free session of offshore solar industry leaders in the Netherlands in Bo’s post below. Combining offshore solar and offshore wind can multiply the energy from a wind park and stabilize the power output. Studies have shown that adding offshore solar to offshore wind reduces the need for energy storage by 40% in the short term (diurnal) and 70% in the long-term (seasonal). Thus, offshore solar can help solve the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) long duration, energy storage grand challenge. Other predictions indicate offshore solar has potential to become the lowest cost form of offshore electricity, just as it is in onshore utility scale installations. The overall lower cost of electricity will help meet DOE offshore wind targets, providing lower cost clean energy for all Americans. #offshoresolar #offshorewind #solarenergy #energystorage #floatingsolar

🔋🏢🌲 Did you know that microgrids can provide energy security for critical infrastructure and communities? Microgrids are self-contained energy systems that can operate independently or in parallel with the main grid, offering a range of benefits. Microgrids offer the ability to keep critical infrastructure robust and operational during grid outages with the additional benefit of being able to include renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power. #DenchiGroup #microgrids #energysecurity #criticalinfrastructure #batteryenergystorage #BESS
