YESTERDAY at #SolaceSummit23 our co-Founder and Director of Research and Policy, Mark Hepworth, joined Brentwood Borough Council's multi-sector panel focused on improving housing quality, accelerating pathways to #NetZero and the launch of a ground-breaking initiative titled #SixStreets The full line-up of panelists, chaired by Daniella Barrow MRICS of Norse Group Limited included Jonathan Stephenson of Brentwood Borough Council & Rochford District Council, Jonathan Digges of Octopus Investments, Paulette McAllister FRSA of Brentwood Borough Council, and Richard Gawthorpe BSc. MRICS of Norse Group. The pioneering Six Streets initiative is a practical demonstration of partnership building focused on unlocking the benefits of place-based impact investment (PBII). The initiative builds on our #SouthEssex PBII Innovation Lab that brought Council representatives together with senior investors, fund managers, and other stakeholders. The Lab confirmed the potential for public-private partnership working with communities to accelerate delivery of good homes in low carbon neighbourhoods. Mark said: "Everyone should have a decent home and live in a thriving community. Six Streets is about making this a reality through Place-Based Impact Investing. It's a great example of ‘grassroots innovation’ in The Foundation Economy – here, housing and health - that impact investors should get behind and make happen. There are a million streets like these six. Only then, will we make the House of the UK a decent place to live in." At TGE we will support the Six Streets team through our new #PBIINetwork, co-hosted by the Institute of Economic Development and the Impact Investing Institute. Excellent ideas and energy at the Land Trust Alliance Rally 2023 underway now in Portland, OR. The focus, grit, and creativity of the staff and volunteer leaders of land conservation nonprofits nationwide is inspiring. Land trusts, public/private cooperation, cross-border strategies, landscape-level planning, and climate adaption are some of the powerful approaches that are reshaping conservation in the U.S. today. Increased public funding is making new progress possible; now, private philanthropy needs to keep pace.
